For the third year in a row, California has won the contest of most one-way U-Hauls leaving the state.
No joke.
Congratulations to Governor Newsom on a historic three-peat. California led the nation in one-way U-Haul rentals a third straight year.

So, where are these U-Hauls headed? The states that California Governor Gavin “Hair Gel” Newsom loves to hate – Texas and Florida.
The Lone Star State, which took the top spot for the second year in a row and the fifth time since 2016, has seen its population steadily growing for decades with more than 30 million residents last year.
The only other state with more than 30 million residents, California, ranked last on U-Haul’s Growth Index last year as demand for trucks out of the Golden State spiked.
All that Haterade is working out really well for him. His Hairfulness is even having a scaled-down “inoculation” ceremony on Friday, supposedly to commemorate the anniversary of the January 6 insurrection, in order to contrast the extremism of these evil red states versus the inclusion and “freedoms” found in California. California offers no freedoms for holding down a government job or going to school without having to inject a toxic substance that gives you heart issues into your body, or freedoms for doctors to give advice to their patience that is right for them without fear of having their licenses revoked. However, there is plenty of freedom for children to be able to ingest puberty blockers and cut off their body parts without parental permission, and for women to kill their babies even after they are born.
This is the “California Way.”
From the Homegrown Team’s Sacramento Bee:
On Friday, Newsom will kick off his second inauguration with a march to the state Capitol, where he will be sworn in for another four years in California’s highest elected office.
The celebration falls on the two-year anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, giving California’s Democratic governor another opportunity to portray the Golden State’s case as a bulwark against far-right extremism.
“This observance of the California spirit of opportunity and inclusion — ‘the California Way’ — will stand in peaceful contrast to the violent insurrection and assault on our democracy which occurred two years ago,” Newsom’s inaugural committee wrote in a statement.
This California Way is not attracting people to the state—bleeding 113,000 people this past year alone makes that pretty clear. So, Newsom can contrast and virtue signal all he wants, but the people who are still in California for reasons other than the restrictions on freedom and piss-poor state governance know that it would be more accurate for Newsom to drive up in a U-Haul truck rather than march in his pompous new clothes.
While the Emperor struts naked up the Sacramento capitol steps on Friday, Texas and Florida continue to enjoy their population boom, and welcome all those fleeing Californians.
Texas gained about 470,000 people between July 2021 and July 2022, according to U.S. Census Bureau data, while California lost about 113,000 people.
Domestic migration, meaning Americans moving within states, accounted for about 231,000 of Texas’ population gain during that time frame, while international migration accounted for 118,000 and natural increase accounted for another 118,000 residents.
Florida ranked second on the growth index for the second year in a row.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was sworn in for his second term on Thursday, and with this rousing inaugural address, there is no question why this state’s growth index is through the roof, while California founders.
Freedom lives here, in our great Sunshine State of Florida!
It lives in the courage of those who patrol the streets and keep our communities safe, it lives in the industry of those who work long hours to earn a living and raise their families, it lives in the dedication of those who teach our children, it lives in the determination of those who grow our food, it lives in the wisdom of our senior citizens, it lives in the dreams of the historic number of families who have moved from thousands of miles away because they saw Florida as the land of liberty and the land of sanity.
Over the past few years, as so many states in our country grinded their citizens down, we in Florida lifted our people up.
When other states consigned their people’s freedom to the dustbin, Florida stood strongly as freedom’s linchpin.
When the world lost its mind – when common sense suddenly became an uncommon virtue – Florida was a refuge of sanity, a citadel of freedom for our fellow Americans and even for people around the world.
But it’s not just deep blue California that is shedding residents faster than VP Kamala Harris sheds staffers. New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Illinois, along with California, scraped the bottom of the barrel for the places where growth is not occurring. What do these places have in common, you ask? Over-the-top progressive governance, out-of-control crime, high taxation, and lack of economic and cultural freedom.
We are seeing The Great Migration in reverse, but it’s not along racial lines, but liberty lines: economic, medical, and cultural. From 1910 to 1970, Blacks poured out of the South for more economic opportunities and less racial animus in northern, Midwest, and western states. Now people of all racial, economic, and cultural stripes are fleeing these blue states in protest of the economic rape through taxation, the overreaching government that targets their families and faith, and the medical malfeasance and overreach under the guise of “public health.”
So, save for some of the major city centers, these states are becoming like the ghost towns of the Old West. But instead of tumbleweeds peppering the landscape, you have U-Haul trucks heading due South.
