This was the right choice, though a sad one. It is a wise and smart thing that Congressman and Businessman Doug Ose is paying attention to this wake up call and ending his bid.

From the AP:

Former Republican Congressman Doug Ose ended his campaign for California governor Tuesday after disclosing he suffered a heart attack last weekend.

The 66-year-old businessman and farmer exits less than a month before the Sept. 14 recall election that could remove Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office. Ose was one of 24 Republicans on the ballot, and among 46 candidates overall.

The AP reports that Ose was at his home, but felt unwell. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he learned he had suffered a heart attack.

While Ose showed commitment to the electoral process and the State by his participation in the Recall Governors debate at the Nixon Library two weeks ago, Ose’s showing was not the strongest. Ose made a huge misstep with key constituents of the Recall: the independent professionals who were decimated by AB5, when Ose said that the governor needs to work with Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-Chula Vista), the author of the troubled law.

Ose was scheduled to attend the debates tonight and Thursday of this week. Three top-tier candidates: Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and Businessman John Cox are also scheduled. Olympian and Reality TV Star Caitlyn Jenner, and Radio Host and Political Pundit Larry Elder declined both invitations.

Ose’s shining moments in the debate and on the trail was his strong knowledge and fierce advocacy regarding the water crisis in California. Ose was one of the first to announce his candidacy, and as a farmer and a businessman, he was hoping to parlay that with his experience as a U.S. Representative from 1999 to 2005 into the governor’s chair.

Ose said in a statement that he expects a full recovery but decided to end his campaign to focus on his health. He said he’s been told by doctors to expect additional medical procedures.

“It has become clear that I must now focus my attention on rehabilitation and healing. Sometimes you have to do things that you don’t want to do,” Ose said in explaining his decision to pull out.

Ose affirmed that,
He remains committed to the belief that new leadership is needed in Sacramento, and urged voters to support Newsom’s recall. He thanked his supporters and added, “Since God gave me another day, I look forward to resuming the fight for the state that I call home.”

Wishing the Congressman a speedy recovery.
