"Journalism Died Under Obama's Presidency"; Biden Journalists Say, "Hold My Beer"

Real Journalist Adam Housley was tagged in a tweet that included a Politico article by Daniel Lippman about what President-select Joe Biden reads and watches.

Just like you, I was dying to know this myself.

The tweet also tagged Andrew Neil of Spectator USA, CBS’s Catherine Herridge, WSJ’s Kimberly Strassel, Fox’s Media analyst Howard Kurtz, the Federalist’s Sean Davis and Mollie Hemingway, Brit Hume, Chuck Ross of the Daily Caller, Will Chamberlain of Human Events, Byron York, Tucker Carlson, and Ari Fleischer. Some are the usual household names, like Hume, Fleischer, and Tucker. Others are known as standard-bearers for quality journalism, and sound reporting, while others just have their pulse on journalism or… journalisming.

Here we have lots and lots of journalisming. The fact that Lippman needed help from two other reporters for this drivel is its own form of embarrassment.

The piece starts off sounding very important and informative, but soon devolves into self-parody:

“In the Biden administration, the foreign policy establishment is expected to return to its usual position of influence for the occupant of the Oval Office. But so is the news media establishment. Here is what Joe Biden reads and watches, according to five current and former aides[…]

This is equivalent to all the puff pieces on Obama’s Final Four draft picks. Pure puffery and mind candy.

” ‘Biden reads a lot, but doesn’t watch a lot of TV news,’ said Jay Carney, who was communications director to Biden when he was vice president. ‘Can’t remember him ever watching TV in his office when I worked for him.’

Then Lippman totally contradicts Carney by rattling off how often Joe actually does watch TV.

Still, he usually watches a good portion of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” while getting ready for the day.

“And he will sometimes catch glimpses of TV coverage between meetings and is particularly interested in how Fox News covers him. ‘It’s instructive for how a certain slice of the country is being told how to interpret what he does and what he says,’ said one longtime Biden aide.”

Biden’s aide better get up to speed then. That “certain slice of the country” (wherever that is) that used to watch Fox is now tuning in to NewsMax and OANN. Keep up!

I am old enough to remember when important “journalist” Charles Gibson looked down his glasses at 2008 vice presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin when she said she read from a number of news sources online. Now that Big Tech owns the White House, this stance is not only legitimate, but the hallmark of any leader worth their salt. Sadly, Palin was ahead of her time. So, while Lippman rattled off the “papers” that Biden reads—some are still in print, gosh, gee willickers!—he also wants you to know that Biden is very tech-savvy.

Biden is a devoted fan of the Apple News app on his iPhone, and frequently scrolls through it when he’s in a car, on a plane or just has some down time. (Playing chess and solitaire on his phone are also favorite activities.) He has the New York Times app on his phone, and a former Biden staffer said that when he was in the White House last time, Biden had the POLITICO app and checked it regularly.”

POLITICO gets a mention?! Squeeee!!!!!

This last item truly sets this piece apart in terms of quality journalism… or lack thereof.

Biden is apparently fluent, or at least proficient, in emoji: He has been known to react with a thumbs-up to some links texted to him.

Did you know that it is highly critical that the Commander-in-Chief and Leader of the free world be fluent in emoji? Neither did I. No wonder Trump was cheated lost.

Puffery, self-congratulation, and navel-gazing—at Biden’s belly button lint.

This is what it’s come to, and what we have to look forward to for the next four years.

Can’t wait…
