The Establishment Media Is Biased—Just How Progressives Like it

The Washington Post made the decision not to endorse either former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential election, and progressives have got their collective panties in a bunch over it.

The news of WaPo’s decision was met with wailing and gnashing of teeth coming from leftists, who ridiculously believe this is a sign that the news outlet is no longer biased enough in favor of Democrats.

Many leftists on social media complained about the newspaper’s decision not to support either candidate. Members of the outlet’s staff also balked, with some choosing to resign. It was a cyber temper tantrum for the ages, dear reader.

Washington Post staff are resigning in protest to Jeff Bezos stopping the newspaper endorsing Kamala Harris.

Thousands of subscribers have also shared that they have unsubscribed from the newspaper.

Polling over recent years shows that Americans are generally displeased with the media, which is why trust in this institution has plummeted drastically. Yet, there still appears to be at least one group that likes the bias: Democrats.

A recent Gallup poll indicates that trust in media remains near record lows, with only 31 percent expressing a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in the media’s ability to report the news “fully, accurately and fairly.” But the report’s findings fall along partisan lines, with 54 percent of Democrats, 27 percent of Independents, and a paltry 12 percent of Republicans indicating confidence in the media.

The numbers experienced similar lows during the 2016 campaign. About 36 percent indicated they have “no trust at all” in the press.

This is part of an overall trend where trust in media declined from between 68 and 72 percent in the 1970s to the dismal numbers we are seeing today.

It is also worth noting that trust in the media is almost tied with Congress, which should tell us all we need to know about the issue, right?

What is also interesting is how journalists feel about media bias. A recent Pew Research Center study produced some noteworthy findings on how they feel about “bothsidesism,” the notion that the press should give equal coverage to all sides of an issue.

The survey found that 55 percent of journalists believe “every side does not always deserve equal coverage.” By way of contrast, 76 percent of the American public believes coverage should be balanced for all perspectives.

Journalists working with online media outlets are less likely to support the idea of equal coverage of all perspectives. Only 37 percent of this group said they believe coverage should be balanced. About 55 percent of those in television media support balanced coverage.

Political alignment also plays an important role. Journalists whose audience is mostly right-leaning tend to support equal coverage (57 percent), while those on the left oppose it (69 percent).

Among the general public, 87 percent of Republicans favor equal coverage compared to only 68 percent of Democrats. Moreover, 84 percent of those with lower trust in the media tend to prefer equal coverage.

The furor surrounding the Washington Post’s decision not to endorse a presidential candidate is a manifestation of these numbers. Conservatives and Independents largely don’t care about the decision. But those on the left are incensed because they obviously want WaPo to reflect their political values instead of simply reporting the news from a variety of perspectives.

This explains a lot, does it not?

In the minds of its readers, the Washington Post exists solely to make sure Democrats win elections while pursuing a left-wing agenda. What is funny about this is that the Post is far from an objective news agency. Indeed, the outlet has clearly been in favor of Democrats for decades. From where I sit, they are already doing their job as faithful Democratic shills. So why does it even matter whether they formally endorse a candidate? Even Mr. Magoo can see which side they are on.

The Washington Post will continue to act as a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party. There is absolutely no risk that the newspaper will somehow start reflecting conservative perspectives or values. Yet, progressives can’t seem to get enough. They want 100 percent loyalty to the left, and anything less means The Post is probably fascist or something.
