Beyond the White House: Fighting for the Conservative Agenda on the Ground

The South Carolina primaries are almost upon us and there is speculation that this could be the end of primary season. Former President Donald Trump has a dominant lead over former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who is the only challenger left.

For all intents and purposes, Trump is the nominee and will go on to challenge President Joe Biden for the presidency once again. This has sparked speculation about the impact another Trump term in the White House could have on the future of the nation.

Columnist Jonathan Tobin penned an op-ed in which he argues that another Trump presidency is “exactly what conservatives should want.” In the piece, the author details the reasons why the former president is the best shot right-leaning voters have for advancing a conservative agenda at the federal level – especially when it comes to fighting back against the “woke” left.

If Trump gets back into the White House—and with him currently winning in battleground state polls, it's a real possibility—he will provide the only and perhaps last chance for conservatives to roll back the woke tide that is damaging America in ways that overshadow any minor differences some on the Right may have with him on other issues.

Tobin also noted that the former president “instinctively” understood the problems with the 1619 Project and argued that “Though liberals mocked his ‘1776 Project,’ it was exactly the response conservatives should have applauded.”

The author discussed how Trump could “undo the executive orders by which Biden compelled every federal agency and department to implement DEI plans and installed woke commissars to enforce them.”

He’s right about this, of course. The State Department recently unveiled its “Equity Action Plan” to wokify American diplomacy.

The author also brought up the overall DEI movement in the public and private sectors, explaining that “A Republican-run Department of Justice could also help speed along the lawsuits that could also unravel the DEI orthodoxy that has overtaken the corporate world and conquered academia.”

Tobin’s points are valid: Another Trump presidency could aid in the battle against the far left’s efforts to use government to bend the nation to its will. However, there is only so much a president can do to prevent progressive ideology from gaining supremacy over America’s institutions.

What is needed more than a Republican presidency is a wholesale grassroots movement to combat the woke agenda in government-run schools, state legislatures, local politics, and in the culture war. Much of the progressive agenda is being enacted at the state and local levels.

Grassroots movements have the unique ability to mobilize citizen engagement, influence local and state elections, and promote activism intended to defeat the left’s efforts to force their insane ideas on the rest of us.

Lawfare has also shown itself to be a valuable weapon against the left, especially in its effort to indoctrinate children and pass laws that make us less safe.

Fortunately, some of this is already happening. When it came to light that schools were pushing Marxist ideas on race, sexuality, and gender identity in K-12 government-run schools, it ignited an entire grassroots movement to protect children from indoctrination. Parents showed up at school board and city council meetings to protest inappropriate materials being presented to children in the classroom.

Additionally, there have been several instances in which folks on the right have employed the court system against progressive efforts. Detransitioners have been filing lawsuits against medical facilities whose professionals pushed them into “gender-affirming care” without exploring other means to treat their gender dysphoria.

Ever since the Supreme Court ruling on New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, various pro-gun rights groups have filed lawsuits and struck down a plethora of gun control laws.

These are all encouraging signs, but we need more people and organizations willing to fight back against the sinister agenda the progressive left is pursuing. The left already has a troubling level of dominance over the media, entertainment industry, and various areas of government, meaning that this fight will not be easy. However, if enough people wake up, we might have a fighting chance.
