Former President Donald Trump is taking heat from folks on the right for his interview with journalist and podcaster Megyn Kelly. The latest controversy centers on his response when asked about transgender issues.

Kelly asked Trump whether a man can become a woman. The former president’s response was a combination of hesitancy and ambiguity. After a long “ummmmmm,” Trump offered, “In my opinion, you have a man, you have a woman. I, I, I, think part of it is birth.”

He continued: “Can the man give birth? No. They’ll come up with some answer to that also someday.”

The clip, which has gone viral on social media, was widely panned by conservatives and Republicans, who roasted the former president for not giving a simple, definitive answer.

During a speech on Friday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is also seeking the GOP presidential nomination, said:

“Don’t tell me a man can become a woman because it’s not true. Don’t tell me a man can get pregnant because it’s not true. And we’re not going to root our society in things that are false.”

Trump has come out firmly against the use of “gender-affirming care” on minor children, referring to it as “the mutilation of children.”

He also acknowledged the existence of detransitioners who undergo these procedures as kids and then later regret them. The former president noted that many of these individuals, when they're older, ask: “Who did this to me? Why did you do this to me?”
