Elon Musk Just Exposed Twitter’s Censorship Problem in One Simple Tweet

After years of gaslighting the public about its biased censorship practices, Twitter’s efforts to suppress right-leaning viewpoints on the platform have been utterly exposed. Elon Musk, the company’s new CEO, publicly acknowledged what most of us already knew: The platform’s content moderation staff made censorship decisions based on political bias.

It started when journalist Kyle Becker posted a tweet related to left-wing media activists deceptively claiming Musk is a right-winger. “Imagine if @ElonMusk were actually the right-wing bogeyman these spoiled lefty journos pretend he is and he decided to turn the tables and ban all left-wing ‘fake news’ from @Twitter. There’d be nothing left for them to publish!” he wrote.

Musk responded, noting that left-wing accounts who post false narratives were not banned under the previous management:

As is obvious to all but the media, there is not one permanent ban on even the most far left account spouting utter lies

As an example, he cited the Associated Press publishing a now-debunked report insisting that Russia launched missiles into Poland:

Not even Associated Press with their completely fictional report on Russian missiles hitting Poland that carried severe consequences for escalating the war

Of course, there are plenty of other examples of the activist media pushing deceptive reports on Twitter’s platform. Every hoax, fake narrative, and lie they have told has been disseminated on the bird app. Indeed, it has been one of their primary propaganda tools over the past decade.

Under the old management, these falsehoods were never punished. Members of the activist media knew they could exploit the platform to peddle their narratives without worrying about the consequences.

On the other hand, the social media company’s censorship brigade routinely took action against conservative influencers if they expressed viewpoints the left deemed to be “misinformation.” This was especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic when they suppressed opinions that went against the Democrat-approved narrative on the virus and vaccines. The company went so far as to ban the New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2019 to help Joe Biden win the presidency.

This isn’t to say that absolutely no left-wing accounts have been banned. But the high-profile influencers and activist media outlets received no such treatment, according to Musk.

It has been blatantly obvious that those previously responsible for Twitter’s content moderation were biased in favor of the left for years. Indeed, its employees even admitted to shadowbanning accounts that espoused conservative views during an undercover report from Project Veritas, which was also banned under prior leadership. Fortunately, Musk has reinstated their account.

This is yet another positive step in the right direction. For Musk to acknowledge publicly that the company went easy on leftist misinformation while punishing right-wing views is significant in that it validates people who have complained about these policies for years. Now, progressives can no longer claim that there is no biased censorship on social media – the CEO of the company has admitted it in a very public way. Hopefully, this is another step toward what Musk promised: A platform that promotes the expression of a multitude of ideas without biased censorship.
