Progressives Trot out a Tired, Old Soros Trope to Smear Marco Rubio

The progressive left is very protective of billionaire George Soros. In fact, they are so fond of their favorite political financier that they have developed a rather odd strategy when it comes to dealing with his critics.

Whenever a conservative criticizes Soros or points out the numerous political efforts of which he has been a part, progressives respond by pretending it’s an expression of anti-Semitism. That’s right; since Soros is Jewish, the left pretends he somehow represents all of Jewry–therefore, attacking him is attacking all Jews.

The left has been employing this trope for years. But in the latest episode of “Everyone Who Criticizes Soros Hates Jews,” Democrats went after Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), after he posted a tweet about Democrats shutting down a bill that would compel “Soros backed prosecutors” to actually do their jobs. “The democrats just blocked my effort to try & force Soros backed prosecutors to put dangerous criminals in jail,” Rubio tweeted.

Rubio’s tweet was met with the usual wailing and gnashing of teeth coming from the Consortium of the Perpetually Offended™. A number of left-wing blue checkmarks responded with their usual accusations of anti-Semitism. Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers and an ardent defender of progressive ideology being infused into K-12 classrooms, went full hysterical, claiming that Rubio’s remarks were “how anti semitism takes root and spread.”

THIS Is how anti semitism takes root and spreads. What is a “Soros” backed prosecutor? Soros is a Hungarian Jew who survived the Holocaust.. Orban the authoritarian leader of Hungary demonizes Soros all the time in Orban’s culture war to suppress freedom & democracy.

Podcaster Kathleen Smith also lied about those criticizing Soros. “When Rubio says ‘Soros backed prosecutors’, what he’s really saying is ‘Jews,’” she wrote. “Know that. It’s (weakly) coded antisemitism.”

Dan Murphy, an alleged journalist, claimed that when Rubio says “Soros,” he is referring to “Jews.”

And remember kids, when Marco Rubio says “Soros” he means “Jews.”

It is quite bizarre that progressives actually expect people to view Soros as a stand-in for all Jews. He is one man, after all. But then again, they did spend the entirety of President Barack Obama’s tenure in the White House pretending that anyone who said an ill word about his performance was akin to the Ku Klux Klan, right?

But what is even more interesting about this dustup is that Soros himself has publicly stated his intention to fund the campaigns of far-left progressives running for attorney general positions nationwide. It is how New York’s Alvin Bragg, San Francisco’s Chesa Boudin, and Los Angeles’ George Gascon obtained their positions. In fact, Capital Research’s Parker Thayer put an entire list together of officials that Soros funded.

This is what progressives are trying to distract from by screaming “anti-Semite” at Rubio on social media. They know full well that criticizing the financier has nothing to do with anti-Jewish bigotry. Unfortunately for them, this particular tactic only works on those who already want to believe it.
