An I&I/TIPP survey revealed that most Americans – including Democratic voters – understand that the Jan. 6 hearings are more about attacking Trump and his supporters than getting to the bottom of what led to the riot at the U.S. Capitol building. To make matters worse, it is not the first study revealing that Americans can see that the hearings are a steaming pile of bovine excrement. In July’s survey, researchers asked whether respondents agreed with the following two statements:

“Some say that the Jan. 6 committee was handpicked and represents only Democrats’ points of view.”

“Some say that the Jan. 6 committee’s main aim is to ensure President Trump can’t run in 2024.”

About 46 percent agreed with the first statement that members of the panel were “handpicked” to represent Democrats, while 35 percent disagreed. The breakdown by party was rather interesting, with 64 percent of Republicans agreeing and 43 percent of Democrats agreeing that the panel is biased. About 44 percent of Democrats disagreed. Not quite the expected result, is it?

But it gets even better.

Overall, 60 percent agreed with the second statement, that the panel’s primary function is to prevent Trump from running again. Only 27 percent disagreed. Even more noteworthy is the finding that a whopping 62 percent of Democrats agree with this statement, which is only slightly less than the 70 percent of Republicans who believe the second statement is accurate. Among Independents, 48 percent agreed while 34 percent did not.

The only surprising result of this survey was that so many Democrats were willing to admit that everything about this panel and its hearings was a politically-biased effort to target a political adversary. Despite House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s claims that the committee’s purpose was to gather information about the Jan. 6 riot, it was obvious from the beginning that this circus was about scoring political points for the upcoming congressional elections and pressuring Trump into staying out of the 2024 presidential race.

When Pelosi and company first assembled the group, they made sure that only anti-Trump Republicans were allowed to serve on the committee. That way, they could pretend they were a bipartisan outfit while still pursuing their crusade against the Orange Man What Is Bad™. True to form, Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) were ready, eager, and willing to take their position as the token Republicans.

The findings of the study show that the majority of Americans are skeptical about the committee and its hearings. From the beginning, it appeared Democrats were not putting forth much of an effort to hide their true intentions – perhaps they believed people would hate Trump so much that they wouldn’t care about their naked attempt to use Jan. 6 to distract from their long list of failures while attacking the former president.

The problem for the Democrats is that they seem to not realize that if the majority of Americans believe their hearings are politically-motivated, it calls into question their credibility. Republicans have claimed from the start that this circus was not intended to do what Democrats claimed – and now it is clear the rest of the country agrees with them. This means that even if the committee were to find something compelling – which is highly unlikely – it is not likely to do enough damage to help Democrats.

They already tried using Cassidy Hutchinson, who might have been believable had she not claimed Trump tried to go full Steven Seagal on secret services agents who refused to take him to the Capitol on Jan. 6. But, unfortunately for the left, they just can’t help but go overboard.
