Superintendent Proudly Declares His District Is Using Critical Race Theory in the Classroom

This story might be a bit confusing.

The ever-trustworthy progressive left has repeatedly told us that Critical Race Theory (CRT) is not being used in America’s classrooms. Members of the left-wing activist media have wagged their fingers and lectured us on how districts aren’t using concepts from the theory to indoctrinate children. Yet, there is video of Dr. Nikolai Vitti, superintendent of Detroit Public Schools Community District, proclaiming that educators are applying CRT in their classrooms.


During a presentation at a school board meeting in November 2021, Vitti lamented the fact that Michigan’s House passed a measure banning the teaching of the theory in public schools. He said that if schools inadvertently teach elements of the theory “by memory,” it would “bring a financial penalty to the district.”

He continued:

“Our curriculum is deeply using Critical Race Theory, especially in social studies, but you’ll find it in English Language Arts and the other disciplines. We are very intentional about creating curriculum infusing materials and embedding Critical Race Theory within our curriculum as stated by many speakers today.”

The official argued that CRT is necessary in classrooms “because students need to understand the truth of history, understand the history of this country, to better understand who they are and about the injustices that have occurred in this country.”

Sounds pretty clear, doesn’t it? Vitti is not even attempting to hide the reality that Michigan’s largest school district is clearly infusing CRT into its teaching. Yet, the talking heads on MSNBC and CNN continue telling us that this is not happening anywhere in the United States.


Who would have ever thought these people would lie to us?

It’s worth pointing out that this is not the only development proving that progressives claiming that CRT is not anywhere near K-12 classrooms have some of the longest noses ever seen. Remember when National Education Association, the nation’s largest teacher’s union, proudly declared it would promote CRT to schools across the country? Of course, we do, even though the organization later deleted that part from its online agenda after it received backlash. But do any of us think they actually decided not to go through with this plan?

We also can’t forget when over 5,000 teachers signed a petition promising to continue teaching elements of CRT even after laws banning the theory are passed. These folks aren’t trying too hard to cover it up – so why is the left-wing chattering class so intent on gaslighting the American public into believing conservatives are just making this stuff up? Why not just admit it and defend CRT in classrooms?

We all know the answer.

It’s because most parents don’t want the problematic elements of the theory being driven into their children’s brains. Teaching history is one thing. Pretty much everyone agrees that America’s good, bad, and ugly history should be taught. But there is an enormous difference between teaching history and employing exercises and assignments teaching that America is a racist nation and that kids need to do their part to fight against “whiteness,” which is a common trope among proponents of CRT. Labeling one group of students as “oppressor” and another as “oppressed” has nothing to do with educating students about the evils of slavery, Jim Crow, and other examples of racism in the U.S.


I’ll put it simply. When progressives claim using elements of CRT in the classroom is just about teaching America’s true history, they are lying, plain and simple. They are using this as a cover for pushing progressivism in schools. When one actually does the research, it is easy to see, which is why the left continues lying about it. Unfortunately for them, people are increasingly learning the truth of the matter, especially because of folks like Dr. Vitti.
