Democrats’ Attack on Marjorie Taylor Greene Show How Desperate They Have Become

The Democrats’ latest attack against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) will make one wonder exactly how ridiculous they are willing to make themselves look. Yet, they still remain hopeful that they will succeed. Georgia Democrats are currently engaged in an effort to keep Greene from seeking re-election in the upcoming congressional elections.

Judge Amy Totenberg, an Obama appointee, allowed the campaign against Greene to proceed in the court system. The Hill speculated the judge’s decision “could open a new avenue of attack against some of the GOP’s most controversial lawmakers.”

It appears Democrats might be hoping their attack on Greene, if successful, could possibly work against other Republican lawmakers like Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), who constantly triggers the progressive crowd. However, the report acknowledges this outcome is “unlikely,” but points out that it might “give Democrats another opportunity to hit the GOP over the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol” and force some GOP members of Congress to testify under oath.

In other words, this strategy is just another way to exploit the riot as a political cudgel against Republicans because the Democrats have nothing on which to run.

The challenge was filed by a group called Free Speech for the People in March. They allege that Greene helped facilitate the riot, meaning she violated the 14th Amendment and is no longer eligible to seek office. The amendment says that nobody can serve in Congress “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.”

Constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe said the case against the lawmaker was credible because of course he did. He claimed the accusations were bolstered by “incontrovertible factual evidence” that Greene assisted in facilitating the riot.

“Having taken an oath of allegiance to our Constitution, she acted in coordination with co-conspirators close to the defeated President Trump to overthrow the 2020 presidential election and reverse its results,” he told The Hill. “That the result she sought wasn’t achieved is irrelevant. Hers is a paradigm case for an adjudication of permanent disqualification from ever again holding public office.”

However, others are not so optimistic. Charles Bullock, a professor at the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs, told The Hill: “I guess it’s possible, but I certainly wouldn’t want to bet the farm on it.”

He added: There’s no history of this, and if there is, you’d have to go back to the late 1860s.”

A similar challenge mounted against Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) failed after a federal judge blocked it. The same group challenging Greene filed the legal challenge and alleged that Cawthorn’s speech given before the riot began violates the 14th Amendment.

Greene savaged Democrats for their brazen attempt to influence her reelection. During an appearance on Fox News with Tucker Carlson, she said their efforts were being carried out by people who hate her constituents.

“These people hate the people in my district so much,” Greene asserted. “They look down on them because they voted for me and sent me to Washington to fight for the things that most Americans care about.”

“They’ve hired up some attorneys from New York that hate the people in my district and don’t believe that they should have the right to elect who they want to send to Washington,” she added.

The lawmaker also intimated the same tactic could be used against Democratic politicians as well.

“I bet you we could round up some Republican voters who didn’t like Kamala Harris funding criminal rioters out of jail or Ilhan Omar, or Cori Bush, or Maxine Waters inciting riots,” Greene said. “I think there’s another way to play this game.”

Democrats seem to be banking on the possibility that forcing Greene to testify could hurt her politically. They can’t possibly think their legal challenge will actually succeed, because the lawmaker clearly did not participate in planning the riot — no matter how much the activist media wants the nation to believe it. So far, they have not produced a shred of evidence to this effect.

However, Jan. 6 seems to have lost its luster. Americans are concerned about gas prices, inflation, Ukraine, and education, not on a bunch of thugs who broke windows at the US Capitol building. There is absolutely no way this will cause harm to Greene or even other GOP candidates. But at this point, what other options does the left have?
