Giuliani: Sidney Powell Does Not Speak For President Trump

Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani again distanced himself and President Trump from “Kraken” lawyer Sidney Powell after she visited the White House multiple times over the past few days. While the president’s legal team already placed distance between themselves and Powell in November, it appears Giuliani felt the need to do it again.

During a Monday appearance on Newsmax, Giuliani insisted that nothing that Powell says is tied to the president’s efforts to change the result of the presidential election. He said:

“Let me say definitively: Sidney Powell is not part of our legal team. She hasn’t been for five weeks. She is not a special counsel for the president. She does not speak for the president, nor does she speak for the administration. She speaks for herself. And she’s a fine woman, a fine lawyer, but whatever she is talking about, it’s her own opinions. I’m not responsible for them, the president isn’t, nor is anybody else on our legal team.”

Trump’s legal team disavowed Powell after she appeared alongside them at a press conference and claimed that voting machine companies were switching millions of votes from Trump to Biden. Giuliani’s team has also expressed suspicions about the machines and have been pushing to gain access to them. However, he told Newsmax host Sean Spicer that unlike Powell’s assertions, the Trump team’s approach will stay “within the bounds of rationality, common sense, and the law.”

So far, Powell’s “Kraken” lawsuits have not met with success. She has also not yet provided compelling evidence proving that millions of votes were changed from Trump to Biden.

Giuliani’s comments come amid speculation that President Trump might be considering appointing Powell as special counsel to investigate allegations of election fraud.

On Sunday, Powell visited the White House again. She was seen by CNN exiting the building and said it was “none of your business” when asked why she was there. But New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman claimed that the attorney met with Trump to try again to convince him to seize voting machines.

“Confirming what @JDiamond1 saw, that Sidney Powell was back in the White House tonight. She was once again pitching an executive order on seizing voting machines to examine them, per a person with knowledge of the meeting. Unclear if POTUS is planning to go along with it,” she tweeted.

Of course, it is entirely possible that Haberman is lying about Powell’s reasons for visiting the White House. However, it isn’t difficult to imagine that she might be taking another shot at convincing him to use the military to seize the voting machines used in battleground states. She’s not the only one who has made such a suggestion; Attorney Lin Wood and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn have both pushed for this course of action.

While Trump’s advisers have strongly pushed back against Powell’s suggestions regarding the election, the fact that he is still meeting with her might indicate that he is still considering her for special counsel. After Barr announcing that he is not planning to appoint a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden, it’s possible that Trump might be looking for allies anywhere he can.

However, even if Trump does appoint Powell as special counsel, it will likely not make much of a difference. If former Vice President Joe Biden takes office, he will almost certainly shut down her investigation. In the end, if Trump is looking to expose malfeasance regarding the election, the Kraken lawyer might not be the best avenue.
