Portland NAACP President: BLM Protests Are A ‘White Spectacle’

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, the national Black Lives Matter organization are is nothing more than white progressives in political blackface. This truth has become evidence in cities like Portland, OR, where predominantly white leftist organizations are wreaking havoc and mayhem ostensibly in the name of black America.

As violent demonstrations continue to rage in these cities, these individuals are exposing themselves far more often, and it has become evident that their antics have nothing to do with safeguarding black lives. This reality has not been lost on black community leaders, many of whom have spoken out against the “Defund the Police” movement. But in Portland, a local NAACP president had some harsh words for the melanin-challenged rabble-rousers in his city.

E.D. Mondainé, who heads the Portland chapter of the NAACP penned an op-ed in The Washington Post in which he took the white progressive rioters to task for their conduct during the Black Lives Matter demonstrations. First, he ripped “Naked Athena,” a white protester who made headlines after a video surfaced showing her confronting a group of police officers in the nude.

“Images of ‘Naked Athena,’ as the protester has been labeled, have gone viral, her unclothed confrontation with police earning her accolades as a brave ally of the cause,” he wrote. “But I see something else: a beneficiary of white privilege dancing vainly on a stage that was originally created to raise up the voices of my oppressed brothers and sisters.”

Mondainé continued in this vein, pointing out how the actions of white progressives are distracting from the original purpose of the protests. He wrote:

“Unfortunately, ‘spectacle’ is now the best way to describe Portland’s protests. Vandalizing government buildings and hurling projectiles at law enforcement draw attention — but how do these actions stop police from killing black people? What are antifa and other leftist agitators achieving for the cause of black equality? The ‘Wall of Moms,’ while perhaps well-intentioned, ends up redirecting attention away from the urgent issue of murdered black bodies.”

The author continues, asking, “Are they really furthering the cause of justice, or is this another example of white co-optation?”

Near the end of the piece, Mondainé gives a plea to white progressives: “We welcome our white brothers and sisters in this struggle. In fact, we need them. But I must ask them to remain humbly attuned to the opportunity of this moment — and to reflect on whether any actions they take will truly help establish justice, or whether they are simply for show.”

Mondainé is one of many black leaders who are expressing frustration with the usurpation of their cause by white progressives. When the viral video showcasing Portland Police Officer Jakhary Jackson’s comments on the progressive protesters, it became even more apparent that these demonstrations were more about pushing a Marxist agenda than protecting black Americans.

So, will the white progressive protesters finally start listening to the voices of those they pretend to represent? Not likely. Some of these folks might feel that they are helping. But by ignoring the pleas of black Americans, they are showing the same type of paternalistic racism that they have always displayed. In a sense, the tendency of white savior progressives to disregard input from their black allies sends an implicit message: “Don’t worry, you poor negroes. We know what’s best for you.”

Unfortunately, it does not appear that this trend will abate anytime soon. The truth is that the white progressive machine cares nothing for the black community. Indeed, much of their power comes from promoting policies and ideologies that are designed to keep many black Americans in dire circumstances.

This is why so many white progressives support riots. It is why they claim to be fighting on behalf of black Americans while simultaneously destroying their communities. And this will continue until they face an actual challenge to their authority.
