Allow me to be Captain Obvious for a moment.

The progressive corporate media has been engaged in a years-long smear campaign against President Donald Trump since he took office. Their attacks could be described as various forms of “Orange Man Bad.” They have run the gamut, from pretending he is a secret Russian agent, to blaming him for a hurricane and even trying to remove him from office through impeachment.

But lately, the Coronavirus has served as their political weapon against that mean guy in the Oval Office. When the news broke about the outbreak of the illness, progressive leaders and their allies in the establishment media pounced on the opportunity to use the disease against the president. Unfortunately for them, a recent Gallup poll shows that their plans have failed once again.

The survey, which was conducted from Feb. 17 – 28, found that Trump’s approval rating remains on the higher end at 47%. To provide some perspective, at this point in his presidency, former President Barack Obama’s approval rating was at 48% — and this was without a constant bombardment of negative press from the rabid Fourth Estate.

According to Gallup, Trump’s approval rating has “been elevated since just before the U.S. Senate voted to keep him in office after he was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives.” They also noted that the time period in which the poll was conducted occurred while “fears about the spread of the coronavirus led the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s worst week since the financial crisis of 2008.”

But despite the spread of the virus, and the progressives’ attempts to use it as a political cudgel against the president, his approval rating remained steady. It appears the Democrats might need to go back to the drawing board on this one, folks.

Perhaps America isn’t as easy to fool as the progressive media apparatus would like to think. Anyone paying attention can see that the White House is doing its best to address the problem. But the Democrats seem interested only in sniping at the president to score cheap political points — how many of them have actually presented actionable suggestions or solutions?

It seems likely that the American public sees through the left’s cynical attempt to use the thousands of deaths that have resulted from the coronavirus for political purposes. And yet, it seems the Democrats have not yet learned their lesson. Maybe after they are defeated in November, they might take some time for some much-needed self-reflection.
