The Left Freaks Out Over Ken Blackwell, Trump's Domestic Transition Team Leader

For all the times I have criticized Donald Trump on the pages, Democrats and liberals are making it very easy for me to defend him now that he has won the election. The spittle-flecked rage the left has been in since the Associated Press called the election this past Tuesday for Trump is at nuclear levels.

Take Ken Blackwell for example. Trump asked Blackwell to lead his to lead his domestic transition team. The left has immediately started howling, zeroing in on some of the positions Blackwell has on issues such as gay marriage.

Mashable helped get the ball rolling with a headline sure to make Donald Trump laugh:

Donald Trump’s war on LGBTQ people has already begun

The hysteria centers around the fact that Blackwell thinks being gay is a choice. So? Also, despite the fact the Supreme Court has ruled gay marriage is a constitutionally protected right, Blackwell still supports traditional marriage. So? Blackwell sits on the board of The Family Research Council. So? The left points out the FRC is considered a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC has about as much credibility as Monopoly money has value with the Federal Reserve. It is a lame attempt at a smear campaign, nothing more.

Donald Trump did not ask Blackwell to lead his domestic transition team because they’re aligned on social issues. Trump is the boss, and he has made clear he is not interested in a fight over gay marriage. In fact, in a 60 Minutes interview, Donald Trump said the following about gay marriage:

“It’s law. It was settled in the Supreme Court. It’s done. … These cases have gone to the Supreme Court. They’ve been settled, and I’m fine with that.”

The reason Trump chose Blackwell has nothing to do with his views on gay people and gay marriage. Trump chose him because of his impressive resume as it relates to domestic policy.

“He serves on the Board of Directors of various high-profile organizations including the Timothy Plan, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, the United States Air Force Academy Foundation, the Club for Growth, Grove City College, the National Rifle Association, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, the National World War II Museum, and the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Board of Advisors, of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA).

He was mayor of Cincinnati, Treasurer and Secretary of State for Ohio, undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission. He was a delegate to the White House Summit on Retirement Savings in 1998 and 2002. During the 1990s, he served on the congressionally appointed National Commission on Economic Growth and Tax Reform and the board of the International Republican Institute. He was Co-Chairman of the U.S. Census Monitoring Board from 1999-2001.”

Blackwell’s policy focus is tax reform — he co-wrote a book with Jack Kemp and served as Steve Forbes co-chair in 1996 when Forbes ran for President. He sits on the board for the Club for Growth. Blackwell is not some wild-eyed radical. Trump brought him aboard to make it easier for Trump to lay out a domestic policy agenda that focuses on tax reform, job creation and economic growth.

It is silly to think Trump is stealthily using Blackwell as a means of attacking gay rights. Expect this kind of shrill nonsense to continue.
