Here's What Washington DC Did Instead Of Helping Residents Clean Up After The Blizzard

It is amazing how government operates. “Government efficiency” is a true misnomer in that in the age of scanning documents with your phone and creating a PDF, the government is still using mimeograph machines and government workers are spending too much tim sniffing the paper.

That is unless of course, they want to collect money. The government becomes a machine of efficiency when it wants to collect revenue. And when that happens, the government is like the Terminator.

“It can’t be reasoned with It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever.”

So what did the great government of Washington DC do in the wake of one of the worst blizzards they’ve had in years? They’ve been giving tickets to people:

D.C.’s snow emergency will remain in effect through Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and the city wants drivers to know it’s serious about enforcing the parking bans.

Since the blizzard began last Friday, the District has issued $1,078,000 worth of parking tickets and $65,600 in fines so far. It has towed 656 cars.

Vehicles are being towed at the owners’ expense. Violators face $250 tickets, $100 tow charges and a $25-per-day fee until they pick up their vehicles.

“Don’t park your car illegally, and that includes parking it kind of in the middle of the street next to the snow bank,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Tuesday. Cars should be parked no more than 12 inches from a curb, not a snow bank, or drivers risk a ticket, she said.

Naturally, they will hold up their hands and say, “Hey, there’s nothing we can do. You’re not following the rules!”

Except, people who cannot move their cars are being ticketed:

But many drivers said they simply couldn’t move their cars from emergency routes after the blizzard dropped two feet of snow on the District.

“They gave me a $250 ticket just for being snowed in. I couldn’t get no help,” driver Danielle Smith said.

Remember, it does not feel pity.
