The Epic #Fail that is the Democrats latest attempt to drive Rush off the Air

Rush Poses with his best friend.

At some point, you really have to wonder when they’ll stop trying. Every other attempt the Left has made to get Rush Limbaugh taken off the airwaves has ended in failure, but that hasn’t stopped them from trying, and failing, again and again. This time, though, the effort was especially laughable. As Breitbart describes it:

Over the weekend, Democrats launched a campaign to get — in their own words — “Rush Limbaugh off the air.”

The petition to get Limbaugh off the air comes straight from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) in the form of a fundraising/petition email. The idea is to use the muscle of the petition to in turn muscle Limbaugh’s advertisers to drop him. The phony outrage is manifested from a toxic stew of lies crafted by the DCCC and (naturally) Sandra Fluke that take Limbaugh’s recent comments about sexual assault way, way, way out of context.

The impetus for this particular petition came from Rush’s recent comments on a proposed Ohio State University policy that would require explicit permission before people engage in any kind of sexual activity. The full context of his remarks was (transcription thanks to the above Breitbart article):

“Consent must be freely given, can be withdrawn at any time, and the absence of ‘no’ does not mean ‘yes.'”

How many of you guys, in your own experience with women, have learned that “no” means “yes” if you know how to spot it? Let me tell you something. In this modern world, that is simply not tolerated. People aren’t even gonna try to understand that one. I mean, it used to be said it was a cliche. It used to be part of the advice young boys were given. See, that’s what we gotta change. We have got to reprogram the way we raise men. Why do you think permission every step of the way, clearly spelling out “why”… are all of these not lawsuits just waiting to happen if even one of these steps is not taken?

Make no mistake, this is merely an attempt to silence a popular conservative voice for voicing opinions the Left doesn’t like. The substance of the remarks is largely irrelevant to their longstanding desire to drive him from the airwaves. As long as it’s remotely controversial, it’s worth yet another try.

But what sets this particular attempt apart from the others is just, for lack of a better term, how full of fail it is. The Daily Caller was one of those to expose the truth behind the petition:

The recent campaign to silence conservative radio legend Rush Limbaugh is led by ten liberal activists engaged in a more than four-year long effort to destroy Limbaugh by targeting his advertisers, including a Media Matters executive vice president.

A former Kent State university professor even targeted a small businessman advertising on Limbaugh’s show using her official university email account.

Information compiled by Limbaugh’s team — and first provided to The Daily Caller — demonstrates that nearly 70 percent of the tweets targeting Limbaugh’s advertisers come from the same ten Twitter users, all of whom are actively involved in the “Stop Rush” campaign, which keeps a database of all of Limbaugh’s advertisers. […] The activists even use technology to “machine-tweet” anti-Rush comments in robotic fashion to ensure maximum Twitter exposure for their insular group’s efforts.

So what we have here is yet more Astroturf from the people who are experts at creating it. They don’t have popular support for their ideas, so they are trying to create an illusion that there is mass repudiation of Limbaugh. It’s the same thing they’ve tried with many other popular conservatives, but unlike many of them, Rush has the audience and air space to fight back. To his great credit, he doesn’t back down.

You have to wonder when the Left will realize it’s fruitless to try to get him off the air. Can you say “living rent free in their heads”?
