For all the talk about Mitt Romney being out of touch, you certainly don’t have to look very hard to find examples of President Obama demonstrating just how bad of a tin ear he has. Even worse, for Obama at least, is that his out of touch moments frequently manifest in the worst possible ways. We saw evidence of that earlier this week when Obama turned down a meeting with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu but still found time to appear on Letterman. The recent events in Egypt and Libya, though, have given him yet another opportunity to demonstrate this fact.

To start, we have the fact that Obama decided to continue with his trip to a fundraiser in Las Vegas after a brief statement Wednesday morning that was closed to the press. This, of course, would be bad enough. However, it’s what he said there that makes it even worse, but you probably won’t hear it from the mainstream media’s accounts of the rally. They’ll tell you about his brief mention of the attacks for sure, but they won’t tell you about what else he said. Per the Washington Examiner’s Joel Gehrke:

“And obviously [our] hearts are broken for the families but I wanted to encourage those folks at the State Dept. that they were making a difference,” Obama told volunteer leaders in Las Vegas, according to the pool report. “The sacrifices that our troops and our diplomats make are obviously very different from the challenges that we face here domestically but like them, you guys are Americans who sense that we can do better than we’re doing….I’m just really proud of you.”

This is appalling, and yet all the media wants to do is gin up phony outrage over what Mitt Romney said. I’m with Erick, the American media has beclowned themselvesover this. They have sacrificed any attempt at honesty to keep “their guy” from looking bad. It’s not just them that we should be mad at, though. We ought to expect better from our elected leaders than statements like this.
