Maybe it was getting Osama Bin Laden. The night President Obama addressed the nation to tell us Bin Laden was dead, he overwhelmed us with “me” and “I”, as if the SEAL team was an afterthought and President Obama himself had pulled the trigger. Subsequently, the President repeatedly declared that Al Qaeda was decimated or on the run. And ever since, Islamic radical threats have been rearing their heads, killing people, and ruining lives.
From the Benghazi attack on September 11, 2012, until November 1, 2012, Barack Obama championed Al Qaeda’s demise 32 times. But now we know, thanks to reporting in the New York Times, the Defense Intelligence Agency was warning that the Syrian Civil War had allowed Islamic radicals to regroup and redouble their efforts.
The White House did not want to listen though. Lt. General Mike Flynn, who was in charge of the Defense Intelligence Agency at the time, told the New York Times that President Obama was not receptive to the idea that Islamic radicals were growing in strength after he began pulling out of Iraq and muddying the Syrian situation. A 2012 report by the Defense Intelligence Agency, according to the New York Times report, noted
The growing chaos in Syria’s civil war was giving Islamic militants there and in Iraq the space to spread and flourish. The group, it said, could “declare an Islamic state through its union with other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria.”
But General Flynn says the White House ignored the report. ” Frankly, at the White House, it didn’t meet the narrative,” he told the Times. Got that? It did not meet the narrative.
The left’s playbook has always been to tell a narrative story. Any facts and data that contradict the narrative must be disputed or dismissed. New facts that undermine the narrative are never allowed to reshape the narrative. The ISIS threat continued to grow and Barack Obama continued to dismiss ISIS as “junior varsity” and not a serious threat. All the while, ISIS kept accumulating territory in the Middle East and North Africa — territory larger than Great Britain.
Last Friday, ABC News interviewed President Obama about ISIS. He told ABC that ISIS was “contained.” This came after a bombing in Lebanon and a plane explosion over Egypt. This came a few hours before ISIS killed more than 100 in Paris.
But the White House continues to peddle this narrative. ISIS is contained. ISIS was just acting out in Paris because it is contained in the Middle East. ISIS has now announced it has set up training camps in Afghanistan and is expanding territory there.
On May 1, 2003, President George W. Bush addressed the nation from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln. The captain of the ship had unfurled a banner that read “Mission Accomplished.” It was meant to be for the sailors on the ship who were going home after a tour in the Persian Gulf. The Bush Administration used it as a backdrop to announce major hostilities in Iraq were over. Afterwards, Iraq descended into chaos and the Left used that backdrop against George W. Bush. The press played it up, repeatedly badgering George W. Bush over declaring the mission accomplished.
It is telling just how committed to protecting their precious Barack Obama the American press corps is that they have yet to seriously challenge Barack Obama’s narrative on Al Qaeda, ISIS, or the Middle East. Al Qaeda is on the run, Al Qaeda is decimated, and ISIS is contained, yet more than 800 people have died this year because of Islamic terrorists.
Barack Obama has accomplished his mission. He’s made the United States weaker and many more people are dead than could be because he was more interested in a narrative than in facts. His precious press corps, however, would never dare point it out. They want to believe his narrative too, damn the consequences and dead bodies.
