Brian Walsh, formerly of the NRSC, has a much buzzed about op-ed at US News claiming that Heritage Action for America and the Senate Conservatives fund profit from attacking Republicans.He writes, “[M]oney begets TV ads which begets even more money for these groups’ personal coffers. Pointing fingers and attacking Republicans is apparently a very profitable fundraising business.” This is fascinating. Brian Walsh, while at the NRSC, helped mastermind the attack ads against Ken Buck in Colorado on behalf of the NRSC, as well as aligning the NRSC for Charlie Crist in Florida, Trey Grayson in Kentucky, and against Mike Lee in Utah in his bid to oust Bob Bennett. Likewise, the NRSC opposed Pat Toomey against Arlen Specter and, when Specter jumped to the Democrats, continued its search for an alternative to Toomey.Now, Walsh — a good guy, by the way — traded in the NRSC to head to Singer Bonjean Strategies as a partner. Singer Bonjean is a lobbying group on Pennsylvania Avenue, a block from the White House. So a guy who left the NRSC for a lobbying group accuses ideologically oriented groups of profiting. Okay.But consider his actual objections. He says in 2011 the Heritage Foundation — which is not Heritage Action for America — “called it a “dirty little secret” that Obamacare can’t truly be defunded.” Likewise, he claims that Jim DeMint — not the CEO of Heritage Action for America — voted to fund Obamacare in 2011. He also claims that Republicans “flat-out do not have the votes currently to cut off Obamacare funding.” Also 2013 is not 2011.So why then is Mitch McConnell calling for defunding Obamacare?John Cornyn too.And Eric Cantor in the House.And Kevin McCarthy.All these men are calling for Obamacare to be defunded. The difference is that Heritage Action for America and the Senate Conservatives Fund are actually fighting to defund Obamacare. These men are just trying to do what? Make “more money for [their] personal coffers”?I mean the difference here is that Heritage Action for America and the Senate Conservatives Fund are putting their money where their mouth is. The very establishment Brian Walsh supports — John Cornyn, Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor, and Kevin McCarthy — are using the exact same rhetoric. They’re just not actually practicing what they are preaching.When the establishment accuses ideologically oriented groups of profiting by picking fights, we should quickly conclude it is projection. The establishment knows nothing but how to profit off the troubles of the public and certainly hates conservatives holding them to their word.
