In Barack Obama’s address to the nation regarding his nomination of Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court, he said, “Neither [Elena’s mother], nor Elena’s father, lived to see this day. But I think her mother would relish this moment. I think she would relish — as I do — the prospect of three women taking their seat on the nation’s highest Court for the first time in history. A Court that would be more inclusive, more representative, more reflective of us as a people than ever before.“How exactly is Elena Kagan’s appointment to the Supreme Court going to make the Court “more representative”? Let’s not even go down the road leftists like Andrew Sullivan at the Atlantic and Ezra Klein at the Washington Post are going, which is to question the lady’s sexual preference.Let’s stick to the rest of it. With the rest of it, we find that not only is Elena Kagan not representative of America, but Barack Obama is full of it.The woman is replacing the last of the military veterans¹ on the United States Supreme Court. One might think, given the military issues that will undoubtedly come before the Supreme Court in the next few years that it might actually be good to have a veteran on the Court.More galling, Barack Obama, who has spent his entire career holding the military in disdain, is not only replacing the last veteran on the Supreme Court with a non-veteran, but replacing that veteran with a woman who thought it constitutional and proper to throw the military off college campuses. She did not only think it proper, she went all the way to the United States Supreme Court for that right only to be beaten down in an 8-0 decision.How is a Supreme Court with no veterans in a time of war a good thing?More so, this woman, during her time as Dean of Harvard Law, appointed only white people to positions of influence, save one. If she were a Republican, that alone would be grounds for a filibuster.And if that was not enough, Ms. Kagan’s appointment will lead the Supreme Court to a Court composed entirely of Harvard and Yale graduates — the same schools whose graduates that have led us into the financial morass we are in. Throw in Kagan’s connections to Goldman Sachs and we have only one question that must be answered:Does Barack Obama really believe the balderdash he lets pass through his lips?Only in Obama’s ivory tower does Elena Kagan somehow make the United States Supreme Court more representative of American society. And only in Barack Obama’s America does creating a Supreme Court without a military veteran pass as a positive thing.
