P.J. Media’s Michael Van Der Galien came across one of the most misguided and extraordinarily stupid tweets I’ve ever heard.
At first I thought I had misunderstood Danielle’s tweet. I had not.
This young woman, whose tweet has gone viral, has tried to find a way to make dog ownership about race and she has failed spectacularly. I suppose that’s why over 33,000 people are talking about it so far.
Here goes:
“Unpopular opinion: white people love dogs so much because deep down they miss owning slaves. They love the owner and master dynamic, desperate for something to control.”

There are places in the world where slavery is still practiced, but it’s safe to say that most people alive today have never owned slaves. Therefore, how could we miss the owner/slave relationship? Unless Danielle believes this need is somehow built into a white person’s DNA. But, even then, non-white Egyptians also owned slaves.
Dog ownership isn’t the sole domain of white people. People of every race, color and national origin own and love their dogs.
My dogs don’t perform chores. They don’t do tricks. Nor do they even fetch my slippers. In fact, they create a lot of work for me. I must walk them, bathe them, feed them, keep them healthy and find people to care for them when I’m away.
If anything, the strong bond which exists between humans and dogs can be attributed to the need for unconditional love. My dogs never get mad at me. They are always happy to see me. They sense when I’m feeling down and stay quietly by my side. My dogs are an important part of our family.
There is nothing in the human/dog relationship that is even remotely the same as in the owner/slave relationship.
Needless to say, Danielle’s attempt to politicize dog ownership was met with derision by many on twitter.
Here are some of the responses to her ludicrous tweet, starting with my personal favorite:
“Listen, I just wanted to thank you for driving more people towards the right. Trump wouldn’t be president without people like you.”
“You get the STUPIDEST TWEET award.”
“Where do you stand on people who own cats?”
“Few things are more ironic than seeing a liberal trying to condemn someone for being controlling…There is no one in this world more interested in controlling your life then one of these self righteous morons.”
“yes because slave owners pet their slaves and gave them affection and let them eat from the table and played ball with them and snuggled them and gave them baths and took care of them”
“Perfect. The quintessential example of pseudoscience. Thanks for being a living example of how stupid Americans have become.”
