Attorney General William Barr has become the Democrats’ worst nightmare. He is everything they feared he would be and more.
In his testimony earlier today before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee, Barr told lawmakers that “spying did occur” against the Trump campaign. Barr said, “I think spying did occur. The question is whether it was adequately predicated…Spying on a political campaign is a big deal.”
Following Barr’s testimony, the Democrats piled on. And naturally, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) led the pack. He said, “Barr should not casually suggest that those under his purview engaged in ‘spying’ on a political campaign. This type of partisan talking point may please Donald Trump, who rails against a ‘deep state coup,’ but it also strikes another destructive blow to our democratic institutions. The hardworking men and women at the DOJ and FBI deserve better.”
The disgraceful, duplicitous Adam Schiff is lecturing Barr about striking a blow to our democratic institutions?
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) told Fox News that “Barr’s loyalties were compromised. He is acting as an employee of the president. I believe the Attorney General believes he needs to protect the president of the United States.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the Associated Press that she doesn’t trust Barr. But she said she does trust Mueller.
And Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer weighed in as well to accuse Barr of “peddling conspiracy theories.”
The blogosphere has been abuzz ever since Barr’s comment was reported. However, very few people are talking about a remark made later in his testimony that should have Democrats terrified. Barr said, “I’m not talking about the FBI necessarily, but intelligence agencies more broadly.”
John Brennan, James Clapper, are you listening?
Barr’s later statement implies that he has a very clear idea of how the Deep State worked to first derail Trump’s candidacy, and failing that, they tried to delegitimize his presidency. We know a great deal about the conspiracy against Trump, but Barr, who has access to all of the documents we’ve been clamoring for, knows far more.
Barr disclosed that he will be assembling a team of investigators to examine the origins of the FBI’s counterintelligence probe of Trump. He also said that the DOJ’s Inspector General will be issuing his final report on the FISA Court applications and renewals for the Carter Page warrant in May or June.
Law enforcement is closing in on the nefarious actions of government officials who never dreamed any of their wrongdoing would be revealed and they are feeling the squeeze.
Everything would have been fine if only William Barr hadn’t come along.
They know it’s only a matter of time before the whole thing unravels and they are feeling desperate.
“Barr must be discredited.” “He’s a partisan.” “He’s peddling conspiracy theories.”
“If only we can keep Toto from pulling back the curtain.”
It’s too late for that, and they know it.
