A Pox On Both Their Houses!

A Pox on Both Their Houses!

Both former Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell need to be investigated for their ties to Chinese government and businesses. Yesterday’s Wall Street journal makes a great case for this. From the article

If you think investors, workers and consumers are eager for China to stop stealing intellectual property and for the U.S. to stop hiking tariffs, imagine how Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell feel. Family and business ties forged at a time of friendlier U.S.-China relations are bound to attract increasing scrutiny as both prepare to face voters in 2020. Former vice president Biden is currently the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, while Republican Senate Majority Leader McConnell seeks re-election in Kentucky.

The article starts with a discussion of the appearance of impropriety by President Trump’s Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao, who it seems might have used her position as a cabinet secretary to assist family members in gaining access to officials in the Chinese government. Secretary Chao, for those of you late to the party, is married to Senator McConnell.

Later, the article talks about Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden. Supposedly Biden fils, was the beneficiary of a 1.5 billion dollar deal with a Chinese “investment consortium,” although his firm was very small and he wasn’t well known for his investment expertise.

Some small part of my brain had been wondering about the deafening silence on the part of Mitch McConnell regarding Biden’s son. It would appear that the question has been answered. He certainly doesn’t want that already open door to open any wider and spill more sunshine on him.

Here is what is important in this whole sordid mess. Secretary Chao was appointed by President Trump, likely in a bid to secure from McConnell, some modicum of what passes for loyalty in DC. That decision may come back to bite the President. Biden’s obvious corruption, would have been an easy Trump target should he become the Democrat standard bearer. Mrs. McConnell/Secretary Chao, even if not technically guilty of a crime, still exudes the appearance of impropriety, effectively inoculating Biden from that particular line of attack. Moreover, I wouldn’t put it past the leftists to ignore Biden’s transgressions, while attempting to “hold president Trump accountable” for his Transportation Secretary pick.

The Democrats aren’t the only ones. There are a number of us on the right, who would also like to see Trump fix this and sooner, rather than later. There could possibly be some good news on that front. McConnell is up for re-election in 2020. He may have a tough fight of it. Perhaps the President should allow Secretary Chao to resign her position for “family reasons.” (which really wouldn’t be a lie, would it?) and encourage McConnell to head to the house thus allowing Governor Bevin to anoint his replacement—And then I woke up.
