While the self-awareness is not fully intact, it does seem that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is beginning to understand how illegal immigration works and the toll it takes on the country. President Biden and his administration allowed illegal crossings into the United States at record numbers during his first, and thankfully, only term. Conservatives have been beating the drum regarding sanctuary cities since the insane idea took hold in major Democrat-run metroplexes. Well, thanks to some clever actions taken by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Chicago is learning the true price of illegal immigration.
Texas is a border state. Illinois and the city of Chicago are not—they are nestled quietly in the middle of the country and don’t have to deal with aliens constantly crossing their borders. Texas, on the other hand, spends valuable dollars and manpower on its effort to keep illegal aliens out of its state—one of the best states in the country, I might add. So, how does a governor like Greg Abbott teach a mayor like Brandon Johnson about the burden illegal aliens have on their state? Well, send some to Chicago, of course.
Brandon Johnson Shows Why Approval Rating Is 7 Percent During House Hearing on Sanctuary Cities
In December of 2023, the Texas Tribune reported:
Texas flew out over 120 immigrants from El Paso to Chicago on Tuesday as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s policy of transporting recently arrived migrants to Democratic-led cities he has described as sanctuaries, according to the governor’s office.
Since April 2022, Abbott has ordered to send buses with immigrant passengers to Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver and Los Angeles, sometimes mocking those cities’ leaders for saying they welcome immigrants and criticizing the Biden administration’s policies on immigration.
In total, Texas has bused over 80,000 people from border cities to those six cities, according to the governor’s office. Tuesday’s flight was the first time Texas has used planes to transport immigrant passengers.
That’s one way to do it! Now, we’re seeing that Democrat-led cities like Chicago are catching onto just how much of a burden illegal aliens are to border states. In a recent interview, Johnson called the genius plan by Abbott an “attack” on Chicago:
"We didn't do that. We responded to a global crisis. Our city was attacked by the governor of Texas where he spent over $200 million to send asylum seekers to cities like Chicago. He was very intentional about that. But we rose above that attack."
An attack, you say? Couldn’t Texas also view its daily fight at the southern border as an attack on U.S. sovereignty? Well, it turns out they do. Here is the problem with liberal city officials: They’re always so close to understanding the true problem, but somehow it still evades them. Yes, Mayor Johnson, we do see illegal aliens entering our country as a problem—it’s nice of you to join us. Housing. Education. Health care. Food. Illegal immigration puts a massive strain on our border states and the overall country.
Common sense somehow always evades these people. The truth is right in front of his face, and he still can’t see it. We were told over and over again that the border was secure. The Biden administration in total lied to the American people. We saw the same liberal freak out when Governor DeSantis sent illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard. Their community moved them out so fast, I thought FEMA might start making job offers.
The only way to get these liberal city officials to understand the cost of illegal immigration is to put it at their doorstep. Maybe Mayor Johnson will one day understand the damage he’s caused in his city, but I’m not holding my breath.
