Pelosi himself is not required to appear in court to make an appearance and can have his attorneys enter the plea for him, according to a Napa County District Attorney press release.

On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, Paul Pelosi is scheduled to be arraigned in Napa County Superior Court on charges filed by the Napa County District Attorney’s Office based upon an automobile collision and driving under the influence arrest on May 28th, 2022. Those charges include Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Injury and Driving With .08% Blood Alcohol Level or Higher Causing Injury. The matter is scheduled to be heard in Department 3 at 8:30 am. Under California Penal Code section 977, a defendant can appear through their attorney on a DUI misdemeanor case and does not have to be present in the courtroom unless ordered by a judicial officer. At this time, Mr. Pelosi has not been ordered by the court to personally appear at the arraignment and he may choose to appear through his defense counsel.

The 82-year-old is facing misdemeanor charges, which is why his physical presence in court is not considered necessary. As RedState’s Nick Arama reported, he was arrested that night and released on $5000 bail the next morning.

Pelosi garnered nationwide attention for the car accident, in which a 2014 Jeep collided with his 2021 Porsche while driving at night, according to CNN.

Nancy Pelosi also made headlines today as well, as she landed in Taiwan safely despite threats from the Chinese government.
