The Texas Department of Public Safety put over 250 migrants in custody and returned them back to Eagle Pass, Texas, port of entry, Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported Tuesday. The migrants, who were mainly single men, reportedly entered a private orchard.
Melugin said that most of the men he asked said they are from Venezuela, Cuba, or Colombia, and they claim to have family in the United States. The reporter noted that “most” will be released by the federal government.
Most of the single adult men tell me they are from Venezuela, Cuba, or Colombia.
I asked how many of them have family here in the United States? Most said yes or raised their hands “yes”. Some said they have family in Miami & New York.

The Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman, Chris Olivarez, applauded his state authorities for taking care of the situation. He tweeted the following, along with a video of the migrants boarding a bus:
“@TxDPS encountered a large group of 250+ immigrants in Eagle Pass, TX. Predominantly single adults from Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua & Peru. Great work by @TxDPS & @TXMilitary in helping to secure the border under Gov. @GregAbbott_TX’s leadership. #OperationLoneStar.”

This comes after Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) signed an executive order on July 7 allowing the Texas National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety to arrest those who cross the border illegally and send them back to the border.
In a press release, Abbott stated:
“While President Biden refuses to do his job and enforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress, the State of Texas is once again stepping up and taking unprecedented action to protect Americans and secure our southern border.
“The cartels have become emboldened and enriched by President Biden’s open border policies, smuggling in record numbers of people, weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl.”
The Rio Grande Valley, where Eagle Pass is located, had 333,224 migrant encounters by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the fiscal year 2022 as of June, which is the highest of any southern border sector. Overall, over 1.4 million encounters have been reported this fiscal year, which ends on September 30.
