In a politically divided state like Arizona, there should be at least a few things that unite people as Americans regardless of their views, with Independence Day being one of those things. Unfortunately, the Pima County Democratic Party did not get the memo.

The local party is under scrutiny for posting their support of a Tucson Woman’s March “F*ck The Fourth” event next Monday night.

On their official Twitter page, the local party shared an infographic for the rally, asking people to “bring comfortable shoes, water, lawn chairs, posters, and your anger.”

“Let’s mourn with F*ck the Fourth,” the post states.

The post had been up since Friday morning for about five hours, but it was deleted around 2:25 p.m. Arizona time.

Social media users did not hold back in their criticism of the upcoming event:

“Please Democrats. I’m begging you. Make this your message,” Arizona State House candidate Trey Terry tweeted.

“What the heck is this? Not a good look, @PimaDems,” Laurie Roberts, a columnist at The Arizona Republic, tweeted. Democrats are already struggling with optics with the upcoming midterm elections, mainly due to the economy, but this post might give voters another reason to fret.

“Winning message,” conservative commentator Stephen Miller tweeted.

Although the far-left might want to raise a middle finger to the celebration of America’s founding, it’s safe to say that there are still plenty of Democrats that observe Independence Day. In a politically competitive state like Arizona, the state and national party should hope that not too many voters see this post.

The Pima County Democratic Party should apologize at the very least because this is not how the country moves forward. It’s one thing if somebody chooses not to celebrate Independence Day; however, it’s extremely divisive when an official local party decides to open despise the celebration of America’s founding.

Update: The Party issued the following statement just as this article was publishing:
