Update [7:37 pm EDT, 6/3/2022]: Moments ago, GOP U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz responded on Twitter to winning the Republican primary and McCormick’s concession:

The wait is finally over, as Dr. Mehmet Oz is set to become the Republican Senate nominee in Pennsylvania, as his opponent David McCormick conceded Friday night.

“It’s now clear to me with the recount now largely complete that we have a nominee,” McCormick said, according to the Associated Press. “Tonight is really about all of us coming together.”

According to the outlet, the automatic recount is still ongoing, but Oz has an edge. It’s honestly for the best that McCormick bowed out gracefully with the close results considered, given that the general election is going to be extremely competitive. As I mentioned right before the primary, Republicans need to unite behind the nominee, as the Senate hangs in the balance.

Republican voters who are on the fence about supporting the television doctor in November must remember that the Senate is a numbers game, and he will ultimately move the dial closer to a more conservative future or at least act as a blockade to the Biden agenda if elected.

The Trump-backed and the former host of “The Dr. Oz Show” will face off with Democrat Lt. Gov John Fetterman, who is off the campaign trail due to current health issues. Fetterman announced Friday that he “almost died” of the stroke he notably suffered from on May 13, just before the primary.

In addition, the nominee put out a doctor’s note saying that if he continues to take care of his health, “he should be able to campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem.”

While Fetterman’s health issues will play a factor, which he mentioned he neglected for a long time, his casual demeanor is what could bring him over the top. Still, he will be fighting for the seat in a year when Democrats are incredibly unpopular, and Americans are looking for a change in Washington.

As for McCormick, I wish him the best, and hopefully he’ll be on the trail with Oz soon.
