The Epic Fail That Has Been the Obama Presidency

Today is the very last day of the failed Obama Presidency. It seems like an appropriate time to take a look back at the epic fail that has been the Barack Hussein Obama’s presidency.

Such a reverie must start with Obama’s false claims that he would not run for president in 2008.

When Tim Russert, then the moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” first asked Obama about his ambition for higher office in November 2014, Obama demurred. That was before Obama was sworn in as a U.S. Senator. When Russert asked Obama again in January 2006, Obama stated flat out he wouldn’t seek the presidency in 2008. Then in October 2006 Obama caved and, in a fete of nuancing worthy of John Kerry, admitted to Russert that he was considering running for president in 2008.

Obama’s presidency began with a flubbed oath of office, which required a mulligan.

Just two days after that inauspicious beginning, President Obama issued his hasty and doomed directive closing of the terrorist detention center in Guantanamo Bay, but not for a year. Gitmo remains open as the Obama presidency ends.

The Democrat-controlled Congress gave Obama’s his so-called stimulus, that $819 billion bailout boondoggle that, after weeks of vacillation, Obama claimed would “create or save” three to four million jobs — 90 percent of them in the private sector. Month after month we watched the monthly unemployment reports and saw how Obama’s stimulus boondoggle failed to deliver the jobs he promised.

Obama also failed to keep his promise to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term.  A promise Obama made at least five times. Instead of cutting  the deficit in half by the end of his “first” term, Obama racked up the four largest deficits in U.S. history. You shouldn’t be shocked by Obama’s failure to reduce the deficit in half by the end of his first term in office. After all, Obama did warn us there would be “trillion-dollar deficits for years to come.”

Using Obama’s analysis, his deficit failure resulted in Obama’s “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic” $9 trillion debt. Today, the national debt is $19,961,467,137,973.64 (as of 1/18/2017 — US Department of the Treasury,, accessed 1/20/2017). It was $10,626,877,048,913.08 when Obama became president. That is an increase of more than $9.3 trillion, nearly doubling the national debt during the Obama presidency.

Obama and his Democrats crammed the ever unpopular Obamacare down our throats. Obama sold his version of health care with the infamous lies that if you liked your plan or your doctor you could keep them. Obama’s so-called health care reform was so unpopular, Harry Reid found it necessary to vote on it at 1:00 a.m.

Despite all the Democrats’ sore loser attempts to explain away Hillary ‘s lose to Donald J. Trump, some think Obamacare’s outrageous 20-plus percent premium increases announced a week before Election Day had more to do with the election outcome than did FBI Director Comey or Russian President Putin.

And now, as Obamacare is collapsing as insurance companies withdraw from the program and premiums continue to rise even with the extremely high deductibles, Obama’s so-called signature accomplishment is finally about to be repealed.

Obama’s Cap and trade energy tax, a plan that presidential candidate Obama said will cause electricity rates to “necessarily skyrocket” and will bankrupt anyone who builds a coal-powered plant, fared even worse. The Democrats’ House leadership, and President Obama, rushed about trying to find the votes to pass cap and trade tax before anybody could figure out what it was all about. Like they did with Obama’s so-called stimulus, they scheduled the vote before the Congress critters could possibly read the 1,200 page legislation. They posted the “final” version of the bill the night before the vote and issued a 300 page amendment to the bill after 3:00 a.m. — allowing only five hours of debate.

Obama’s cap and trade climate change bill passed the House, but suffered from the same defect as the Clinton/Gore favored Kyoto Protocol. It couldn’t pass the U.S. Senate.

Obama ran for president promising secure borders, remove incentives for illegal immigration, and to allow undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens. But Obama failed to keep his promise to make immigration reform a priority during his first year as president.

After Obama backed away from that promise, and admitted he couldn’t reform immigration without Congressional action, Obama engaged in extra-legal actions to give illegal aliens a back door amnesty.

Obama’s extra-legal back door amnesty included his 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to protect young illegals brought to the U.S. illegally and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA), sometimes called Deferred Action for Parental Accountability. DAPA would have granted deferred action status to four million illegal immigrants, but it was blocked by the courts.

All of that is on the chopping block now, as Trump has promised to crack down on illegal immigration and deport two to three million illegal aliens.

Obama lost his war on guns — his campaign to repress our Second Amendment right to “keep and bear arms.” It wasn’t for lack of trying. After every mass shooting Obama would rage against guns. Despite the “modest” uptick after the Newtown school massacre, support for gun control remains lower than before Obama took office.

Even Democrats worry that Obama’s war against guns might “imperil” the rest of the Democrats’ agenda. Former President Clinton reminded Democrats what happened the last time the Democrats campaigned against gun rights and passed the so-called assault weapon ban — it cost Democrats more than a dozen Congressional seats in the 1994 midterms, including  then-Speaker of the House Tom Foley.

When Obama turned to tax reform and Congressional leaders tried to work with Obama, he went too far. Obama demanded too much and blew a tax reform deal that would have provided $800 billion in new revenue when he moved the goal posts and insisted on an additional $400 billion in new revenue after the framework for a deal was set.

Obama’s foreign policy fared no better than his failed domestic policies.

Obama started with the infamous botched reset with Russia and is ending with more American forces deployed to Europe. The 3rd Brigade Armored Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division has just moved into Poland with about 3,500 troops, a full set of tanks and artillery — more than 2,500 military vehicles. The deployment and sanctions are in response to Russia’s invasion and annexation of Crimea and military intervention in Ukraine.

Obama promised to rid Afghanistan of the Taliban, but he failed in that as well. Obama declared, he would “make the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban the top priority that it should be. This is a war that we have to win.” But when it came to pushing the Taliban back and strengthening the Afghan government Obama’s strategy failed. When Obama launched a surge in Afghanistan in 2009, he announced the date those forces would withdraw.  Obama’s Afghan strategy failure forced him to reverse course and halt the withdrawal of American military forces from Afghanistan in October 2015.

In Iraq, Obama similarly dropped the ball. Obama declared on Feb. 27, 2009 that the war in Iraq would be over in August 2010.  He called the Islamic State a junior varsity and withdrew from Iraq too soon. As his presidency ends Iraq is still trying to retake the parts of the country that Obama’s failed Iraq strategy allowed the Islamic state to conquer.

Obama engaged in regime change Libya, bombing to terminate Qaddafi’s government, and let Libya descend into the chaos that gave us the Benghazi scandal he tried to blame on an internet video.

In Syria Obama drew a red line in the sand. And when the line was crossed Obama backed down and not only allowed Putin to save the Syrian regime, but enabled Russia to establish army, naval air and nuclear-capable missile bases in Syria.

And there is Obama’s capitulation to Iran on its nuclear weapons program.

Obama’s most significant failure is that he leaves the Democrats’ Party more removed from power than at almost any point since the party’s creation — locked out of power in Washington and out of two-thirds of state legislative chambers across the country, and with only half the number of governorships now controlled by the GOP.
