Cruz Wins the CPAC Straw Poll

Sen. Ted Cruz won the straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday. Cruz won 40 percent of the attendees’ support, while Sen. Marco Rubio came in second place with 30 percent. Donald Trump, who chickened out and cut and ran from his commitment to speak at CPAC — just like he did from the Fox News GOP Iowa debate, came in third 15 percent, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich had 8 percent:

  1. Ted Cruz – 40%
  2. Marco Rubio – 30%
  3. Donald Trump – 15%
  4. John Kasich – 8%

In 2012, the last CPAC straw poll in a presidential year,  Mitt Romney won and became the eventual Republican  nominee. Almost 2,700 activists voted in the poll, many of them young voters. The average age of participants was about 35, according to the survey’s organizers.
