Romney takes an early lead

Romney takes an early lead over President Obama.

The FOX News poll released Friday, Romney leads Obama 46% to 44%.

The Rasmussen Reports 2012 Daily Presidential Matchup Tracking poll has Romney leading Obama 48% to 43%.

After Santorum suspended his presidential campaign on Monday, the Tuesday Rasmussen Matchup poll had Romney and Obama tied at 45% each. It remained tied through Wednesday. The Democrats’ war on women blew up in their face thanks to Democrat operative, CNN political contributor and DNC Chair Debra Wasserman-Schultz’s congeniality coach Hilary Rosen. In an appearance on CNN’s Anderson Cooper Rosen attacked Ann Romney for being a stay at home mom:

“Guess what? His wife [Ann Romney] has never actually worked a day in her life.”

Rosen’s attack was a big mistake. Mrs. Romney is the mother of five boys, grandmother to 16 grandchildren, a church, charity, and community volunteer, former Massachusetts First Lady, breast-cancer survivor, and suffers from Multiple Sclerosis.

Rosen’s ill-advised attempt to do to Ann Romney what the Obamacrats did to Sarah Palin backfired. The ensuing outrage from every corner of the political spectrum made Rosen so radioactive that her scheduled appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this Sunday was cancelled. More important, the controversy seems to have moved the Rasmussen Matchup poll numbers from the tie to a four point — 48% to 44% Romney lead on Friday,  and the five point lead today.

The Hillary Rosen affair shows that the Romney campaign is ready for the general election. Watching this Democrat misadventure over the last few days one wonders whether the vaunted Obama campaign is a complacent, arrogant or just off its game.

Round one to Romney.
