On Tuesday evening, Nevada's Republican Senate candidate Captain (Ret.) Sam Brown took the stage at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee. Brown is an Army veteran who received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart after sustaining severe burns from an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan in 2008. In his speech, Brown retold the hopeful story of his injuries and recovery with his wife, Amy, in the audience.

Brown aligned himself with former President Donald Trump while laying out an economic agenda.

He said:

I'll work with President Trump to cut taxes for working families, and end taxes on tips for struggling Nevada service workers because life must be affordable for millions, not just millionaires.

During a rally in Las Vegas on June 9, Trump touted the no taxation on tips policy, saying:

For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy because when I get to office we are going to not charge taxes on tips.

Brown championed the policy, as the issue especially impacts hotel and service workers in Nevada, telling NBC News

In states like this where we have a strong service-based economy, it makes a lot of sense. And I wonder why Jacky Rosen hasn’t brought this up and isn’t a champion on it.

Embattled Democrat Senator Jacky Rosen flip-flopped on the issue and has since co-sponsored legislation introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). The Culinary Union called Trump's proposal "wild campaign promises from a convicted felon" and then celebrated Rosen backing the bill just days later.

In response, Brown told The Nevada Globe:

Nevadans won’t forget that Senator Jacky Rosen had nearly 8 years to address this issue and did nothing.

Senator Rosen may be flip-flopping on her support of President Joe Biden, too. She snubbed Biden on Tuesday in Las Vegas, during his first campaign stop since Trump's attempted assassination on Saturday. Instead, she participated in a roundtable alongside the former Republican Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval.

In his speech on Tuesday evening, Brown closed by warning about the costs of war, telling the audience:

Look at my face. This is the high cost of war. If Joe Biden stays in office more service members will pay this price. He has brought our nation humiliation, defeat, and to the brink of more war. I've been through the fire, President Trump has been through the fire. But hope has not been extinguished, it is reignited! And we are more united than ever to save America's future.
