Welcome to The Vine, where every week I strive to bring you updates from around the pro-life community to help you keep up with the ever constant battle to save lives. If you aren’t plugged-in, it is my sincere hope that The Vine will allow you to get familiar with those on the front lines and find your place among them.
Today, Americans across the country cheered on those participating in the Boston Marathon. It was an emotionally difficult day for runners and spectators alike, remembering last year’s tragic bombing in which three were killed and over 200 injured. However, it’s fitting that the marathon took place the day after Easter – a celebration of life. Today, Boston once again proved their strength and life was honored. For two men, it was their final Boston Marathon but the inspiration and hope they have provided the last 37 years will live on. As Live Action News describes, father, Dick Hoyt, “has pushed, pulled, and carried his son through thousands of races, including marathons, duathlons, and triathlons.” His son, Rick, was diagnosed at birth as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy. However, not only have the father and son duo shown the amazing strength of family, they’ve proven that disability does not define life. I hope today you cheered with me for #TeamHoyt!
In other family news, Chelsea Clinton has announced she is pregnant. Oddly enough, she didn’t use the terms “fetus or clump of cells” in her announcement, despite the fact that she is just as pro-abortion as her parents. Proving that she has no knowledge of the effects of abortion, namely the gendercide of baby girls, she went on to express her happiness that her child would grow up alongside female leaders. Life News has the story. Unsurprisingly, no congratulations to the Clintons have been forthcoming from Planned Parenthood President and friend, Cecile Richards.
Perhaps Cecile is too busy right now trying to figure out how to spin newly released footage of Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger, speaking out against the birth of all babies. Lest you think Planned Parenthood’s goal is only murdering African American, poor and disabled children, The Daily Caller has the real goal of the abortion mill right from Sanger’s mouth.
Across the pond, The Mirror reports on another effect of the abortion culture founded by Sanger: a baby is dispensable if he/she gets in the way of your goals. And for British model and escort, Josie Cunningham, her unborn child is keeping her from her dreams to be on Big Brother, drive a pink Range Rover and live in a big house. While the television show has confirmed that Cunningham stands absolutely no chance of appearing on their show, she insists that she will kill her baby to further her career.
Though I’m sure Sanger would have been happy about Cunningham’s choice, one can only hope that she would have felt remorse for her role in the creation of mass murderer Kermit Gosnell. RedState’s own Caleb Howe reported last week on a new video released by Ann McElhinney, Producer of the Gosnell Movie, in which she reads from the Grand Jury transcript of the Gosnell trial. In the difficult to watch video, McElhinney explains why Sunday was a special day in the Gosnell house of horrors. With over 50% of their $2 million goal reached, the Gosnell Movie is on it’s way to showing America that abortion is nothing less than government sponsored murder on which even the media is too ashamed to report.
Another film hoping to help spread the truth about abortion will be Alison’s Choice. Producer Bruce Marchiano, who starred in The Gospel of Matthew, will tell the story of what Jesus might have to say to a pregnant teenager before she succumbs to the pressure of abortion. While shooting is currently scheduled for November, funds are still needed to make the movie a reality. I hope you will add your name to the list of lifesavers for this special film.
Sadly, while films in support of life are in financial need, those who have chosen death received a tax break when they filed taxes earlier this month. The news by Gabriella Hoffman at TownHall that the government offers a tax deduction for abortion explains why abortion providers don’t need to offer coupons anymore. As Hoffman explains, despite the fact that most Americans do not support government-funded abortion, the abortion industry would never survive without government handouts.
In another instance of abortions being funded with other people’s money, Life Site News has the surprising report that Catholic Relief Services awarded a $282,356 grant to nonprofit organization Jhpiego. Recently the winner of the 2014 United Nations Population Award, for their work in population control, Jhpiego encourages men and women in developing countries to go against their religious beliefs by undergoing sterilization and using abortifacient drugs. I’m not personally Catholic, but if I was I would be calling 877-435-7277 to express my outrage at such a blatant disregard for the sanctity of life.
Fortunately, the Catholic church has always maintained a strong stance on the issue of life and today’s youth stand with them. This week’s Branch For Life goes to Students For Life of America, who lead the way in helping our country’s youth advocate for life on campus. As covered last week, being an abortion abolitionist at school is tremendously difficult with pro-abortion advocates working so hard to influence young people. Students For Life of America provides an invaluable service to our youth as they seek to end abortion in their lifetime. If you have any students in your life, I encourage you to direct them to their resources here.
