The election of Donald Trump brought with it a wave of social change, as much of the power that the left had over society faded. Not that it wasn't fading already, but Trump winning against Kamala Harris brought with it a blow to the left's morale that was so powerful, many did something I didn't think they were capable of; they shut up.
The talking heads still talked, as that's their job, but those who didn't retreat into the bubble that was Bluesky, or just log off altogether, seemed to be having a hard time coping, and they wisely sat down and started doing some thinking. As I wrote previously, you can see some of the effects of that in our culture now, as leftists are beginning to understand things their ideological rigidity hid from them previously.

As such, many leftist trends that were bleeding out seemed to go find a bush to die behind. As my colleague Brad Slager wrote, Politico dedicated an entire piece to mourning leftist ideas and power structures that are now fading fast with Trump's victory.
These things include "celebrity endorsements":
The first entry is Celebrity Endorsements, and how those did not work. They say that these have always been essential in elections, but the question here needs to be – really?! Consider the voters who were on the fence politically; after weighing all the issues, and still being unable to make the call, why would Cardi B coming out to tout the shallowest of socio-political opinions be the thing to tilt your scale?
“It’s getting harder and harder for any celebrity — even Taylor Swift — to move enough voters to sway an election,” Politico wrote. You can certainly feel the disappointment over the fact that these luminary opinions did not sway things the way they had hoped.
Then of course, there was DEI, trusting the experts, and abortion. They even include "Saturday Night Live" as a tragic loss, as its popularity declines significantly.
I'm not sure why Politico let this piece go. Is it to commiserate with their fellow leftists about the loss of power, or are they genuinely confused about why these things are dying? Do they not understand why America turned away from them, or are they just blowing off steam?
Given that this is the left we're talking about here, I can assume it's a bit of both, but mainly the fact that they truly don't get why these high-minded ideals they loved so much are wildly unpopular. I don't think they realize how lost in their own sauce they became, and how disconnected it made them from the American people as a result.
Allow me to assist them.
The death of these social experiments weren't because they were underfunded, or not well explained. It wasn't because America is too stupid, too racist, too homophobic, too transphobic, too xenophobic, or too uneducated to get what they were.
They failed because they were just old social experiments that failed long ago, but slapped with a new coat of paint and given a different name. Everything from the 1900s made an appearance. Communism and Marxism could be found in nearly everything the left was suggesting, and even Nazism made an appearance after the Israeli attack in October 2023.
These things failed because failing is all they can ultimately do.
Moreover, the left was consistently shoving these things in our face when we explicitly told them to stop. While our economy was in free-fall and our border was wide open, the left consistently told us to shut up and be more accepting of the policies that got us there. When transgenderism was invading schools and men in panties were waving their butts at our children, they told us we were closed-minded, transphobic, hateful bigots when we expressly told them to leave our children alone.
They made villains out of people speaking common sense consistently, and they censored who they could. They even arrested people.
What did they think was going to happen? That we would suddenly wake up one day and see what they thought was the light? That we'd just resist and resist and then, out of nowhere, we'd just accept it all? Who did they think they were dealing with? Did they not know our roots are in rebellion? Did they surround themselves with weak-willed, uninformed, disconnected people so much that they forgot they were up against Americans?
Their entire world is burning down around them because they were everything they hated, and they didn't know how to put the fire out because they refused to recognize they were even on fire.
The left is where it's at because of the left. It's that simple.
