The False Reality Modernity Paints of the 'Strong Woman' Is Going to Get Women Hurt or Killed

Kristin M. Hall

Turn on an action movie made in the past few years and nine times out of ten you’re going to see one of the heroes be a woman. Despite the fact that she’s smaller and has a much more slender frame than her larger and buffer male counterparts, she’s just as physically capable.

She can knock a man out twice her size with a single punch, lift people twice her body weight as they dangle over a cliff in need of rescuing, and withstand g-forces with the power of a demigod. She’s more agile, swift, and accurate than the men are. Once she shows up to the fight, you know she’ll be one of the last ones standing.

Young girls and women see these movies and television shows and are soaked in the idea that when it comes to physicality, women and men can perform on the same level. They believe they can endure just as much as men, lift just as much as men, and fight just as well as men.

For some, this false reality collapses the moment they have to bring a stuck pickle jar to their dad or husband, but others discover that the presentation of women they portray in these movies is false in more painful ways. There are countless videos being released on the internet of girls or women who begin physical altercations with men only to discover that they aren’t nearly as fast, strong, or skilled as women have been portrayed.

And I’ve seen these videos increasing in frequency as time goes on.

But Hollywood has continued to push this narrative that women are just as capable as men when it comes to physical activities. The hard reality that upsets far too many women to hear is that they’re not. While there are exceptions, the general rule is that men outclass women when it comes to all things physical. This has been demonstrated time and again and in so many different ways.

Whether it’s sports, jobs, or even the aforementioned household jar, men consistently outperform women in contests of strength, speed, and endurance.

It’s also why, for a very long time, it was pretty common knowledge that putting women into combat roles in the military was a bad idea. Thanks to this idea that women are just as capable as men physically having become so pervasive, the military has made it seem like this is perfectly okay. Not only that, they’ve begun advertising the idea that women can fight just as well as men can.

See this tweet from the 82nd Airborn Division, for instance:

This is a disastrous idea as has been proven by military tests, and it’s been sitting on this information since 2015:

“The Marines created a battalion of 100 female and 300 male volunteers. During the past year, they trained in North Carolina and California, taking part in realistic combat exercises.

“All-male squads, the study found, performed better than mixed gender units across the board. The males were more accurate hitting targets, faster at climbing over obstacles, better at avoiding injuries.

“The Marine study says its main focus is maximum combat effectiveness, because it means fewer casualties. The Marines have not said whether the study’s results will lead them to ask for a waiver that bars women from ground combat jobs.

“Defense Secretary Ash Carter said he hopes to open all combat jobs to women.”

In a military situation, combat effectiveness must be at an absolute maximum every single time as this not only gives the mission’s success a much higher chance, but it also means that everyone involved has a much higher chance of getting out alive and unscathed. Introducing women into these scenarios automatically reduces combat effectiveness, putting the mission and lives in danger.

This quote mentioned by the 82nd sounds grand in its claim that women can swing swords as well as men but it’s demonstrably false.

It’s also from a romance novel.

Women do not belong on a battlefield, and this isn’t a sexist thing to say. They don’t belong there because violent combat is bloody, unforgiving, fast, and often unfair. Despite what’s seen in pop culture, women do not thrive there. They’re more likely to get hurt or killed, and if they’re super unlucky, they’ll be captured by the enemy and who knows what depths their captors will go to with them in chains.

The tweet above is the height of irresponsibility and a sure sign of social degradation.
