The CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and “Chief Twit,” Elon Musk decided to allay the fears of Twitter’s advertisers with an open letter he posted to his Twitter account that reassured them that despite his position that Twitter should be a space for free speech, he wouldn’t allow it to become a “free-for-all hellscape.”
The idea that Musk has for Twitter is for it to become a safe place for everyone to express their opinions and ideas. He’s described the social media platform as the “de-facto town square” and that it has hitherto been censored and overly moderated by biased employees. However, Musk has made it clear that there will still be rules regarding what is and isn’t acceptable on the platform.
It’s something he wanted to reiterate for advertisers, noting that people will be able to scale their Twitter experience.
“Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!” Musk wrote. “In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature.”
He added, “Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise.”

Musk clearly wants to make Twitter profitable, something that it hasn’t been for some time. This turn of events would likely send Twitter in a whole new direction, but where exactly Musk might take it is something we’re still waiting to see.
That’s not to say we’re completely blind. The rap artist Zuby suggested that Musk should help monetize content creators on the platform and create partnerships with those at the top. Musk responded “absolutely,” indicating that he’s planning on opening up a program for users to get paid for driving traffic like many other platforms.

It’s a brand new day for the social media platform, and with people who were banned inevitably coming back, we can expect some incredible content to come down the pipe. With people now having a monetary incentive to create it, you can rest assured that the platform will explode like never before.
