The Left Is Losing the Narrative War for the First Time In a Long Time and It Can't Take It

For decades, the left had a pretty firm controlling grasp on the national conversation about any given subject. They dictated the terms we used, and the talking points we focused on, and they could generate any lie or half-truth they wanted without much trouble.

Then the internet happened.

While it took some time, the internet allowed the truth to make up the ground it had lost to the left. Private citizens suddenly became journalists, YouTubers became more trusted sources than CNN, and information that could prove or disprove a claim was readily available for those willing to search for it. Despite the leftist platforms slowly and steadily losing the trust they once had, they continued to push forward with an “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality.

It was definitely broken, but it was apparent that the left lacked the necessary skill to do anything different. The most they could do was rely on old strategies and hope their loyal soldiers would carry the weight for them. To be sure, they did. Cancel culture became a hot topic and the narratives the left relied on were pushed by force. No one was safe, be it a gas station attendant or corporate CEO. If the mob turned its attention toward you, you were likely toast. The most you could do was prostrate yourself before them and hope for the best.

But even that began to sour and soon people began to be less and less afraid of the online mob. They figured out that their power was actually an illusion and that, in many cases, cancel culture was a choice, not a sentence. People began daring the mobs to cancel them, robbing them of their scariness. More and more spoke out against the tactic.

Now, much of anything the left tries to say is automatically disbelieved by the general public. Especially as the Biden administration creates problems that it claims are the fault of everyone but Democrats, people are waking up to the lie. It didn’t help that the administration turned on the parents of America and sent the DOJ after those who dared to defy the radical leftist school board members that had infested their local schools.

Today, Disney has fallen into leftism so deeply that it’s now become indistinguishable from a political party. It’s currently leading the charge against a Florida law that prohibits children K-3 from being taught sexualization and sexual identity. Disney, along with many Democrat-loyal news outlets, activist groups, and politicians have attempted to paint the law as an anti-LGBT law, falsely calling it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

They push very, very hard to make that name stick and sell the narrative that Florida and the Republicans that control it are attempting to attack the LGBT community and harm LGBT children.

And no one is buying the lie except those predisposed to buy it.

As my colleague Brad Slagger wrote, an interesting turn happened with the narrative over the bill and it’s becoming far more widely known by another nickname; the “anti-groomer law” and the left isn’t taking it well:

Now, a new line of attack is being crafted. Many people have responded to the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” by turning around that method and redubbing it “The Anti-Groomer Law.” While that may strike some as a bit extreme, this cuts to a fundamental reality in all the opposition to the law: The more outraged you are about being limited from bringing topics to K-3 classrooms that are not age-appropriate shows just how interested you are with introducing that content. This response is being met with peals of outrage in the press.

Since this past weekend, more media players have been coming forward with stern accusations that anyone invoking the term “groomer” is doing so either in bad faith or as a sign of regressive homophobia. The desperation in this line of argument is what is so revealing.

Keep in mind that these are the same leftists that would accuse even the mildest person of rabid racism, white supremacy, homophobia, transphobia, and more if they even hinted they slightly disagreed with any point of the leftist agenda. Now that they’ve got a popular label being used against them, they can’t seem to handle it. They’re lashing out even harder than before and like quicksand, the more they struggle the further they sink.

They’re not used to this. For the first time in a very long time, the Democrats have completely and utterly lost control of the narrative. They don’t know what to do.

But more importantly, they should feel terrified and not just because this is a narrative war they’re losing with the consequences being nothing short of many brands, careers, and districts falling off a cliff. It’s because this proves that we’ve reached a turning point in this country when it comes to their control over the conversation.

Decades ago this “don’t say gay” bill would have flown with no issue. Republicans would be apologizing left and right for daring to be so hateful and the media would have a field day making every person or group opposed to the bill out to be absolute and total villains. Now they can’t seem to convince any but the gullible. Their power to sway is leaving them.

This isn’t just good news for Conservatives, this is really good news for the west as a whole. The tyrannical grip on messaging has never been weaker and the more they struggle to keep it the worse it works out for them.

Thanks to the communication we previously didn’t have access to, the lie no longer gets the head start on the truth that it used to. Now the truth is capable of catching the lie before it even steps foot out of the door. So while the left is still in control of major corporations and media outlets, all that control is amounting to little gains.

We’ve just entered a new era.
