House Speaker Nancy Pelosi knows a thing or two about the five D’s of dodgeball and employed them all at once during her weekly press conference on Thursday.
The question Pelosi was asked revolved around Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s antisemitic comments of comparing the nation of Israel and the United States with terrorist groups such as Hamas and the Taliban. The backlash was swift and Omar soon found herself releasing a multi-tweet explanation about wanting to find “solidarity” with her Jewish colleagues. She, of course, blamed her Jewish colleagues for not living up to her standards of solidarity, which resulted in the remarks.
“I think it’s really important for these [House] members to realize that they haven’t been partners in justice,” the Minnesota Democrat continued. “They haven’t been engaging in seeking justice around the world, and I think I will continue to do that. It is important for me as someone who knows what it feels like to experience injustice in ways that many of my colleagues don’t.”
All Pelosi had to do was denounce what was clearly an antisemitic moment from Omar, but true to form, Pelosi did what she always does, and avoided the tough question like an expert dodgeball player.
As you can see in the video below, the moment Pelosi was about Omar’s comments she put a stop to the reporter but promised she’d address it after she was done talking about something else.
“Let’s stay with this, and I’ll answer that afterward,” said Pelosi putting her hand up.
In Pelosi-speak, that means this question has no answers where my life is made easier or the Democrats look better so I’m going to not answer it using the excuse that I’m too busy answering questions about another thing.
I guess that reporter should consider herself lucky Pelosi didn’t lash out at her as she’s sometimes known for doing.
Without a doubt, this sidestepping of a difficult question comes with more implications than cowardice. This is the Democrat Party effectively not wishing to combat the rising problem of blatant antisemitism in the party. As the left likes to make clear, silence is the same as agreement, and if the Democrats are being silent about one of their colleagues speaking hatefully about a certain group, then they’re endorsing it.
