“The soft bigotry of low expectations” is a phrase first coined by former George W. Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson when speaking about minority communities. While Bush used it to reference the way that the country doesn’t expect much from minorities and so it doesn’t give much, the soft bigotry of low expectations has somewhat taken on a different meaning in today’s culture.
In today’s culture, minorities (specifically the black community) is looked at as a community of people who are victimized, oppressed, and in constant need of rescuing like Princess Peach from the nefarious clutches of Bowser, and in today’s society, the left considers itself Mario.
But as time goes on, the white leftists who have taken it upon themselves to be “white allies” and self-appointed protesters of the oppressed have gotten more and more disrespectful. In fact, it’s gotten so bad that white leftists are speaking for minorities, even to the point of correcting their own stories when they decide to counter the left’s narrative.
Case in point, this woman on TikTok took it upon herself to correct the black father who went viral when he spoke out against Critical Race Theory at a school board meeting.

For those of you who don’t recognize the man this woman is referring to, this is Ty Smith. Smith has two medical degrees, a radio show, and a successful YouTube channel. He came from a household where his parents weren’t present and worked his way through college. He’s the antithesis of what the left attempts to pass of as fact through CRT, and as a result, wants to discredit him where they can.
As you can see in the video above, the woman has taken it upon herself to define Smith’s story for him. He didn’t build that himself, he succeeded thanks to affirmative action and that he was successful despite of his black skin, making him an outlier; an exception to the rule.
Imagine you worked very hard to build something all your life and as you stand at the top of the mountain after all the blood, sweat, tears, and pure effort, someone came along and told you that the only reason you succeeded was that someone else made that possible, completely negating your intelligence, ambition, and work ethic.
Not only that, in a way, that person is taking a bit of credit for you being there for themselves. It’s like saying “the thing that I suppose allows you to be who you are.” It reeks of an abusive relationship. What’s more, in a very real way, it reeks of white supremacy.
These white leftists think they know better than black people about their community and themselves. They believe it’s their job to act, speak, and even legislate on behalf of an entire swath of Americans and define their lives and police their thoughts just because of their melanin levels. What’s more, they do all this in the name of “equality” but there’s not really any equality in the belief that one is qualified to speak on behalf of, or act in proxy for, someone of a different race. That action, by nature, puts that race on a lower level in one’s mind, and that’s racism.
The soft bigotry of low expectations isn’t soft, it’s just bigotry. It’s bigoted white people believing they’re superior to the black community enough to be able to dictate what they should and shouldn’t believe.
What’s more, they can’t see that they’re doing this because they truly think that they’re doing it in the name of moral good, but C.S. Lewis had a quote that sums that feeling up perfectly.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”
Lewis had the woke pegged before the woke ever arrived, and the woke are insanely racist.
