The House Oversight Committee, under the control of Democrats, has launched an investigation against Parler, claiming that the social media platform was responsible for the riot that occurred at the Capitol building earlier this month. But Republicans are noting that other major websites are being ignored for their part and how they just so happen to be close to Democrats both ideologically and financially.
According to Fox News, House Oversight Committee Republicans, including James Comer and GOP Rep. Greg Steube, wrote a letter to Democrat Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, noting that her targeting of Parler, while other social media networks go ignored, is more “evidence” that Democrats and Big Tech have a growing loyalty toward each other.
“Like you, we were disturbed and angered by the riot and we believe those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law,” wrote Republicans. “But casting blame on a single social media company known for its conservative username while simply ignoring other social media companies known for sympathizing with liberal causes is blatantly and overtly partisan.”
“Moreover, your letter is additional evidence of the growing alliance between Big Tech and Democrats to muzzle certain viewpoints, opinions, and perspectives,” they added.
Comer and Steube did their own investigation and found a myriad of posts on Big Tech social media platforms, including incendiary posts that also lent to the riot at the Capitol:
Comer and Steube said Maloney’s claim that Parler was a “potential facilitator” of planning for the Capitol chaos “completely omits the fact that other social media platforms were also facilitators of the January 6 riot.”
“A cursory search of other social media platforms yields identical, disturbing posts, from across the political spectrum, advocating for a wide swathe of positions, demonizing an equally diverse group of people,” they wrote, pointing to posts found on Facebook and Twitter
The GOP congressmen went on to slam Big Tech companies, claiming Facebook and Twitter “appear to have profited off of the January 6 riot,” citing commentary suggesting “political turmoil drives increased engagement” on social media platforms.
“Rather than limiting its investigation to Parler, then, perhaps the Committee should include Facebook and other social media companies in its request for an investigation into the antecedents of the January 6 Capitol riot,” they wrote.
The Republicans went a bit further and noted that the reason Democrats have refrained from investigating Twitter or Facebook is because of the amount of money they get from them.
“Of course, doing so may upset Big Tech, which in turn could turn off the spigot of campaign contributions to Democrats,” the Republicans suggested.
To back up the claim, they referred to the numbers.
“During the 2020 election cycle Facebook employees contributed over $5 million in federal elections—92.79% of which went to Democrats,” they said. “Twitter employees were even more generous to Democrats, with 98.41% of all federal contributions in the 2020 cycle going to Democrats.”
“While Facebook, Twitter, and Parler seem to all share blame in allowing their platforms to be used to plan for the January 6 riot, one main difference between the three platforms is that Parler is the only one that hasn’t given generously to the Democrats,” they said.
Maloney previously submitted a demand to the FBI that they investigate Parler for its part in the Capitol riot, accusing them of being a platform that gave seditionists a place to plan their actions. She also suggested the conspiracy that Parler founder and CEO, John Matze, was a Russian asset.

Republicans on the House Committee have pointed out a very real issue about Parler being the sole media platform being investigated while larger platforms are being ignored.
Twitter and Facebook are demonstrably left-leaning while Parler leaned to the right. Parler had experienced explosive growth over the past few years, and with Twitter banning Donald Trump from the platform and possibly moving to Parler, its growth would have likely continued exponentially after that.
This would have made Parler a legitimate threat to Big Tech as more and more would have moved to the platform either due to ideological rejection from Twitter or for the commitment to free speech Parler has.
Two problems would arise from this. For one, the left’s monopoly on social media would end, and two, the control of information would be a lot more difficult thanks to Parler becoming a free and open site for news and information.
It’s hard to create narratives when contradicting information is being seen elsewhere.
This attack on Parler on a government level, plus its de-platforming from Amazon servers, is a method of keeping control while both Big Tech and Democrats keep the maximum amount of money flowing into each other’s pockets.
House Republicans are right to point this out as this would be a massive abuse of power and very plain evidence of significant corruption.
