A suspect is in custody after two Louisville Metro police officers were wounded in a shooting Wednesday evening downtown.

He’s been identified as Larynzo Johnson. He’s charged with 14 counts of wanton endangerment on police officer and two counts of assault on police officer.

The shooting occurred after 8:30 p.m. when officers were notified of a large crowd gathering near South Brook and East College streets.

According to Fox News, a police statement noted around 100 arrests took place on Wednesday night in Louisville after those who took place in the Breonna Taylor riots refused to disperse. They were charged with violating curfew and unlawful assembly. Curfew was implemented to go into effect at 9:00 p.m. and last until 6:30 the following morning.

Fox News reported that Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said that the officers were about to enforce curfew when shots rang out:

In relation to the officer-involved shooting, Interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said officers were responding to calls about shots fired near South Brook Street and a large crowd in the area around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. While deploying, he said shots rang out on First and Broadway, and two officers were shot.

The shooting happened about a half-hour before a curfew went into effect. FBI Louisville said the shooting happened amid “First Amendment-Protected Peaceful Demonstrations” and urged anyone with videos or photos of the incident to provide them using an online submission form on the agency’s website.
