CBS’s Gayle King has incited the rage of the mob, and even some celebrities, after a clip of an interview with WNBA player and longtime friend of Kobe Bryant, Lisa Leslie, was released that showed King asking Leslie about Bryant’s 2003 sexual assault case.

The clip shows King asking several questions of Leslie, including if it’s “complicated” for her as a woman and WNBA player, whether or not her friendship with Bryant blinded her to his actions, and whether it’s even appropriate to be talked about.

The backlash to those questions wasn’t small. Many people began to dogpile onto King on social media, and among those were celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, 50Cent, and others.

“What do you gain from that?” asked Snoop in a video he posted to Instagram. ”

“We expect more from you, Gayle,” he continued. “Don’t you hang out with Oprah?”

Snoop hit King for attacking another black person, and his anger seemed to grow as he talked and he began throwing insults King’s way. By the end, he was making threats.

“Respect the family and back off, bit**, before we come get you,” threatened Snoop.

Rapper Boosie Badazz also released a video along the same line as Snoop’s, accusing King of attacking Bryant as one black person trying to get more famous by bashing another black person.

Rapper 50Cent also commented on the interview.

King herself took to Twitter after reading much of the backlash and released her own videos describing what happened. According to her, the interview with Leslie was a wide-ranging one that covers many topics and the promo that was released by CBS was purposely taken out of context in order to draw eyeballs.

King places the blame for everything on CBS and says that she will be having words with the executives and it won’t be a pleasant talk.

“I am mortified. I am embarrassed and I am very angry,” said King.

CBS appears to be agreeing with King, however. According to TMZ, a CBS rep told them that the excerpt they posted did not reflect the true nature of the interview.

A rep for CBS News tells TMZ, “Gayle conducted a thoughtful, wide-ranging interview with Lisa Leslie about the legacy of Kobe Bryant. An excerpt was posted that did not reflect the nature and tone of the full interview. We are addressing the internal process that led to this and changes have already been made.”

Judging from the reactions of many coming after King, the context may not have been the problem, it was the fact that it was brought up in the first place at all. The matter was one that has been long dead for 17 years and is now being brought up after his death. At this point, it seems like a moot point in any conversation, especially since Bryant isn’t around to defend himself.

The anger from his friends and fans seems to be based completely around this point.
