It’s not looking good for Democrats. The entirety of the 2020 crop of candidates they’ve produced are lackluster at best, and likely won’t stand a chance against Donald Trump in the upcoming general elections.

And it’s not just people on the right who see it. Many Democrats do too, only they’re loath to admit it, but they will in other ways.

Take Michael Moore, for instance. The documentarian is so unimpressed that his attention is wandering to people who may beat Trump that aren’t even in the race. As such, his wandering eye landed on former First Lady Michelle Obama.

According to The Hill, Moore expressed his desire for Obama to run, saying that while others could beat Trump, Obama definitely would:

“She would beat him in the debates, he wouldn’t be able to bully her, he wouldn’t be able to nickname her,” he said.

Moore cited Obama’s popular tour for her memoir “Becoming.”

“She takes the stage and she’s so powerful and so good you just look at that and think of course she could win,” he said.

Obama, however, is not among the vast field of two dozen Democrats looking to face Trump in 2020.

“Well, has anyone asked her?” Moore said. “If asked to serve, I believe she would serve.”

Moore didn’t say anything about Obama’s qualifications, just that she’s a street fighter with a “powerful presence.” In truth, she hasn’t done anything of particular merit that would put a lot of people’s faith in her.

What Moore is likely seeing is a greener shade of grass on the side of a field he can’t get to. He’s none too happy about the fact that his team is headed into 2020 with what the B squad upfront, and in his desperation, he’s looking for someone he thinks will radiate bright enough to outshine Trump. The problem is that he’s basing that feeling off of a book tour where Obama was continuously tossed softball questions in a relaxed atmosphere.

Obama is admired, that is true, but being admired won’t save her against a strong debate opponent like Trump who is bringing his economic numbers and momentum with him.

All that aside, Moore’s suggestion doesn’t speak well for the 2020 contenders.
