Failed Texas Senate candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke is not having a good time in this 2020 presidential race. Not only has he fallen from the top three to somewhere in last place, but his recent CNN town hall event came up with such horrid ratings that lesser-known Democrats are garnering more viewers than he is.

According to the Washington Examiner, O’Rourke managed to garner 714,000 viewers during his CNN town hall, with only 194,000 of that falling in the 25-54 age demo.

By comparison, even lesser known names like Colorado’s former Governor John Hickenlooper managed to attract more eyes than him according to the Examiner:

  • Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper: 745,000

  • Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar: 869,000

  • New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker: 929,000

  • Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren: 1,091,000

O’Rourke isn’t in dead last, however. Just below him is Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro who managed to attract only 654,000 viewers to his town hall.

Sadly for O’Rourke, both Fox News and MSNBC were not holding any kind of special programming like a town hall and still managed to trounce O’Rourke’s CNN time slot with the “Ingraham Angle” bringing in 2,393,000 and “Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” bringing in about 2,274,000 viewers.

O’Rourke’s fading popularity may have been inevitable. His usefulness do the Democrats was only so good as he posed a threat to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, but after the 2018 mid-term elections came and went, O’Rourke’s star began to fade. He still had enough residual momentum to push himself into the 2020 field, but he suffers from the same problem he did during his fight against Cruz.

He’s lackluster. He doesn’t have much in the way of accomplishments to his name and his awkwardness is undeniable. Save some sort of miracle occurring, I don’t see O’Rourke surviving this race. The best he can probably hope for now is a book deal, and I’m not even sure if people would be interested in reading that.
