Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay isn’t known for being the nicest guy in the room, and when you work for him you’re likely going to find yourself under verbal assault, especially if you’re incompetent. According to a recent interview, he’s not interested in the incompetence of a generation that pays more attention to how it feels than what it accomplishes.

The revelation came when Daily Mail reported that Ramsay isn’t interested allowing his kids to work for him due to the fact that he doesn’t want them coddled, especially by a staff that’s too scared to scold them when they do wrong:

Gordon said his children – Megan, 21, Matilda, 17, and fraternal twins Jack and Holly, 19 – would need to learn the grassroots from another chef before he would hire them due to his refusal to ‘pander to the snowflake generation’.

He said: ‘It’s like not employing the kids. I don’t want the staff thinking: “F*** it’s Ramsay’s kid, we can’t tell them off.”

‘You want to work in this business? You f*** off to another chef, learn something different and come back with something new to improve the business.’

Ramsay’s anger isn’t just for him, however. He noted that he’s extremely tough, but extremely fair as well, and will do whatever it takes to make sure you’re the best. That said, he does receive a lot of criticism for his methods but isn’t concerned with what he calls the “snowflake generation.

“I’m firm, I’m fair and I will give you everything I’ve got to get you to the very top,” said Ramsay. “And that’s it, no bulls***. I take a lot of flak for being straight and honest but I’m not worried about that f***ing snowflake generation.”

Ramsay’s daughter Tilly is also something of a celebrity chef following in her father’s footsteps, but the Ramsay in Hell’s Kitchen is a completely different man in his kitchen at home. He teaches his children the value of hard work and doesn’t spoil them.

“It’s not in a mean way; it’s to not spoil them. The earlier you give them that responsibility to save for their own trainers and jeans, the better,” said Ramsay.

When it comes to children, he’s oftentimes more supportive and uplifting than he is on the adults, as you can see in the video below.
