Ocasio-Cortez Accuses America of "Legitimizing Bigotry" for Her Falling Poll Numbers

WE ARE GONNA DIE IN 11 YEARS.

When two separate polls come out detailing the fall of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) favorability, the freshman democratic socialist didn’t stop to think that maybe her radical positions and abrasive behavior aren’t exactly vibing with America. Instead, like any good radical leftist, she’s accusing everyone of racism.

The bad news began earlier this month when a Gallup poll revealed that her unfavorability rating had jumped by 15 whole points. Another released by the Siena College found that America has grown to be more fond of President Donald Trump than Ocasio-Cortez, and that New Yorkers look at her as a villain for killing the Amazon deal with New York, which staved off 25,000 jobs.

When this was pointed out to her on Twitter, AOC responded by making this about identity politics.

“When ‘centrists’ care more about the GOP base than the Dem base, bigotry gets legitimized,” she tweeted. “This is *the* playbook. GOP does it w/ virtually every Dem figure who isn’t a white male: otherize, demonize + splinter. It’s vital that we adapt & dismantle this approach, not cow to it.”

“We can’t gloss over it, or quietly consider that the ‘shrewd’ thing to do is nominate someone who won’t be subject to bigoted attacks,” she added. “Morally, we can’t give a pass to this dangerous tactic. But even politically, the Dem base is all the people you demoralize by not standing up.”

“This is different than being moderate on policy. I may disagree w/ approach (keeping the ACA as-is w/small tweaks, etc), but at least that’s a policy convo,” she continued. “But to make decisions based on the political efficacy of a bigoted argument gives that bigotry power, & that’s a problem.”

To translate, what Ocasio-Cortez is trying to say is that resistance to her ideas is never based on actual concerns on policy, or that perhaps ideological standpoints have been tried and tested over time and have been found wanting. It’s not that her continuously insulting demeanor toward both sides of her party has left a bad taste in the mouths of many, or that her defense of her colleague’s antisemitism and continued demonstration that she speaks more than she actually thinks makes people take her less seriously.

No. It’s that people are giving in to the racism and bigotry of the right in order to appear moderate, and she’s just one more victim of the evil of right-leaning America.

Allie Stuckey summed up what the real problem was for AOC very well in a tweeted response.

“No—this is *your* playbook,” said Stuckey, highlighting AOC’s hypocrisy. “You constantly & falsely claim the only grounds on which anyone in the GOP criticizes you is bigotry. In reality, you ignore their calls for policy convo/debate to avoid proving what we know: you’re not prepared to be publicly challenged on anything.”

This tactic of blaming the right for their unpopularity seems to be common among the freshman Democrats. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Mass.) is also facing resistance from her own party within her state, but instead of realizing that the lost faith from her own party is a result of her own disgusting, antisemitic actions, she blamed her falling popularity on Trump.
