There’s both good news and bad news for the house that Jack built.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Twitter is bleeding users like a gaping bullet wound and investors are noticing:
…shares in Twitter fell in value before the market open on Thursday as investors digested the latest results, which included a forecast of increased operating expenditures in fiscal 2019, the company said. Twitter’s stock was down $2.78, or 8 percent, at $31.28 before the market open.
Twitter’s number of total monthly users, at 321 million for the quarter, was down from 330 million in the same period of the previous year, and compared to 326 million in the previous quarter.
Last November, I reported that Twitter’s stocks had fallen 8 percent strictly over fears of a conservative backlash against the social network for its treatment of right-leaning peoples. Sure enough, many on the right-left Twitter and joined other social networks such as Parler News, who saw their membership numbers jump thousands overnight.
But the good news for Twitter is that ad revenues are up 23 percent, totaling $791 million, exceeding expectations. Their daily active users are up nine percent as well, to 126 million. Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s CEO, attributes this to his company’s efforts to “improve health.”
“2018 is proof that our long-term strategy is working,” said Dorsey. “Our efforts to improve health have delivered important results, and new product features like a single switch to move between latest and most relevant Tweets have been embraced by the people who use Twitter.”
Twitter told investors that they’re only going to buckle down more in 2019.
“In 2019 we will take a more proactive approach to reducing abuse and its effects on Twitter, with the goal of reducing the burden on victims of abuse and, where possible, taking action before abuse is reported,” the company said according to THR. “Our initial focus will be on those types of abuse most likely to result in severe and immediate harm.”
What this means for conservatives is worth an educated guess.
As I’ve written ad nauseam, Twitter seems to have different rules for different users, depending on which way they lean politically.
As I highlighted in a previous video, Twitter saw no problem with death threats being delivered to right-leaning figures, such as the children of NRA spokeswoman and radio show host Dana Loesch. Meanwhile, it punished people on the right for stepping so much as a toe out of line.
Recently, during the Covington Catholic controversy, Twitter was advised repeatedly that many users on the left were literally threatening the kids with death, or at least the promotion of it, and in seriously disturbing forms.
Twitter is slow to act against leftists whenever they attack conservatives, yet has banned or suspended conservatives for so much as suggesting that radical Islam produces terrorists. Meanwhile, figures like hate preacher Louis Farrakhan can compare Jewish people to pests we exterminate with little more than a hand slap from Twitter.
As Conservatives continue to leave the platform, challenges to leftists become less and less. This is the safe atmosphere Jack seems to be creating, and active users may be up because if there’s one thing leftists love, it’s to monologue with people clapping and nodding in agreement.
Offers of dialogue, no matter how civil, is harassment, or “cat calling” as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez puts it.
