Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has invited President Donald Trump to give the State of the Union address after a tense shutdown fight caused Pelosi to initially disallow Trump to give the speech on the House floor.

According to The Hill, Pelosi sent a letter to the White House inviting Trump to give the State of the Union address of February 5.

“When I wrote to you on January 23rd, I stated that we should work together to find a mutually agreeable date when government has reopened to schedule this year’s State of the Union address,” Pelosi wrote in the letter.

“Therefore, I invite you to deliver your State of the Union address before a Joint Session of Congress on February 5, 2019 in the House Chamber.”

According to CNN’s Amanda Golden, Trump has accepted the invitation.

Pelosi originally cited security concerns as the reason for stopping Trump from giving the State of the Union speech in the House, where the speech is traditionally given. Trump fired back by barring Pelosi and other Democrats from using the Air Force for private travel, interrupting a trip to Brussels and Afghanistan in the process.

This invitation comes as the government reopens, at least temporarily. However, Trump warns that if lawmakers cannot find a way to find funding for the wall, the government will close again in three weeks.
