Jon Stewart: The Media's Own Narcissism Makes Them Weak Against Trump

Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart, despite being the originator of the activist (non)comedy that entertainment is currently filthy with, has a keen eye when it comes to seeing the ins and outs of the media.

As first reported by NewsBusters, Stewart sat down with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour. The hostess raised the subject to Stewart on Trump’s mistreatment of the media. Stewart, however, seems impressed by Trump’s treatment of the media as he found and is exploiting their weakness; their own raging egos:

“That might have been an issue — and maybe it still is an issue for the people who are the bean counters,” Amanpour sniffed, “but we the journalists, we I think believe that our job is to navigate the truth and do the fact-checking and all the rest of it.”

“But I think the journalists have taken it personally,” Stewart said. “They’re personally offended and wounded by [Trump]. He baits them and they dive in — and what he’s done well I thought was to appeal to their own narcissism, to their own ego.”

Steward added:

Stewart continued, saying “The journalists stand up and say ‘We are noble. We are honorable. How dare you, sir!” And they take it personally. And now, he’s changed the conversation to not that his policies are silly or not working or any of those other things. It’s all about the fight. He’s able to tune out everything else and just get people focused on the fight.”

Whether you like Stewart or not, he’s definitely right about this.

Many members of the media, CNN DEFINITELY included, seem more concerned with being the story and not reporting the story. The poster child of this is CNN’s own White House correspondent Jim Acosta, who acts more as an activist continually trying to nail Trump and his staff with gotcha moments than an actual reporter, and is continuously beclowned for his efforts as a result.

Since the fake bombs were sent to Democrats, including CNN offices, the network’s hosts have been waxing tragic about Trump’s treatment of the media, pointing to his rhetoric against it as the cause of such an atrocity. Meanwhile, they continuously forget to mention their own divisive rhetoric that could, by their own rules, easily link them to such things as the Alexandria shooter, Antifa violence, the physical assault of GOP officials, the shooting up of a GOP headquarters, and more.

CNN’s Don Lemon just recently cast white Republican men as majoritarily radicalized terrorists.

That Democrats don’t like Republicans is a given. Republicans don’t like Democrats either, but the lengths by which the leftist press goes to make Trump seem like the epitome of evil is beyond the pale, even with CNN allowing one guest to claim Trump radicalized more people than ISIS.

This unrestrained sensationalism becomes the story, and the ridiculousness is open for the world to see. They turn against the press, making the press feel even more victimized. Meanwhile, Trump does whatever he wants without interruption.

Stewart is right. The media’s own narcissism is one of Trump’s best allies.
